How does the whole spreadsheet thing work? Does it update itself whenever a rider scores points?

Like last year. Every week cqranking.com uploads a downloadable file with the latest scores. I copy/paste these scores into the existing spreadsheet and every riders points are automatically updated.

Think I have most of my team done though there needs to be some tinkering done. Turns out I'm a closet Astana fan.

I'm an Excell newbie (although I'm learning a lot from organizing this :)) so I have no idea how to do it.

Anyway, I'll just leave it where it is right now and then hopefully Timmy or someone else is kind enough to do it for me (or rather - for us) once the spreadsheet is uploaded!

Phew, finally had a chance to sit down with my 140 rider long list and start culling. After ranking riders from 1-5 on the likelihood of selecting them, I have this:

- 26 riders I'm taking for sure, current cost of 6601
- 16 more riders ranked as a '4' (likely to take) competing for the last 7 spots
- about 40 riders ranked as a '3' that I should carefully look over to make sure I didn't just arbitrarily rank them that low... as well, they might be a better fit for the numbers.

But my core 26 look pretty good... I just don't know how I'm going to spend 900 on 7 more guys when all my 'big buys' are in the 26 already.

edit: and the most exciting thing so far - I've chosen almost all riders I'm happy to cheer for.

Now I think I have my team finalized. I just spend a few minutes doing some changes and now I'm really satisfied. It also so happens that I hit 7500 points exactly :D

Now that my team's in, I have a burning desire to see who everyone else has gone for. So curious.

I hope you haven't stole any ideas from all the other teams you have seen so far for your own team Hugo!

Christ everyone already has these awesome teams. I havent even started, and when I thought about it, I certainly couldn't think of that many obvious buys.

The Hitch, I certainly do not believe that someone like you hasn't even thought about a team. :p

Indeed, The Hitch prolly ran a 'deveopment' team all last year in a spreadsheet, used computer algorithms to analyse CQ etc. Then it'll be "oh I just threw this together an hour before the deadline".

For the record I kept a scouting file which I added to periodically, then went through about 15 drafts or so before I settled.

I said I hadnt started making a team, not that I havent thought about it.

In fact I said the opposite;)

No, I can separate the two "jobs" :)
My team isn't any more similar to everybody's than anyone else, and I have a few riders who aren't that popular - 9 of my riders have only been picked by one other team, 4 only by two other teams - but actually only 1 unique rider I think.
That said, I'm quite surprised that a few of my riders have been picked by quite a few teams already. At least some of my picks I were sure wouldn't be popular.

But hey, I might still change my team a bit. I just remembered a rider whom I think will have a good 2012. He by the way, hasn't been picked by anyone yet I think :)

Hmm, originally I had a line through the Killer but thinking again he could score big.

It's a no-brainer, surely? The only reasons you wouldn't take him wold be if you just couldn't possibly fit him in, or if you didn't want former dopers.

One thing's for certain.
Jo Bruyneel won't be entering his team, since he has spent 13,563 points on just 30 riders!:D

I've so far picked a couple of provisional squads, that have somehow ended up looking pretty much the same.......

I can see plenty better picks in the 250pts region that a 35yr old Di Luca.

(NB: Above may or may not be a bluff/double-bluff etc. :p )

Team in. All I have to do now is wait for a month before seeing if I forgot some obvious picks or not.

Good luck everybody ;)

So far the closest team I've seen to the budget is Katusha: 71 points over. Movistar were 7166. BMC and Lampre were both 7000ish and Liquigas were about 8000.

Wait, those were 2011 teams, nvm.

I think it's quite likely that Di Luca can be a + on the points in 2012 as his 2011 season had seemingly gone off the track in about May but I doubt that he will score 3x the points.

So it's a good pick but not a super one IMO.

Nice assumption. Time will tell if it is a good pick or not. He probably will be, but I'm not getting him.

well COUNTIF function doesn't work accross multiple sheets. (pretty lame imo)
probably gotta do a UDF. I have little experience with this (I'm confident I can do this) but I am not sure if the UDF will work on other people's excel.

It would be delusional of us to think that Di Luca would be able to win the Giro. A stage and maybe a top 8 ( or so ) finish would be my prediction. He could then challenge at GDL if invited along with a few other races like M-SR on the Poggio.
