So the game was spoilt to some extent last year by Haussler and Cobo being in every team, and now Breschel will be in every team. Thanks for that.

+1. For those that somehow missed him miraculously, if someone doesnt have Breschel that would be really awkward, or persistant.

I think Hugo should set some sort of rule to restrict pre-season discussion of teams/riders for the 2013 game. It only has a negative influence on the game.

I think it shouldn't be all about who can finds the best bargains, but more about analysing the riders. When you are allowed to name riders before, you can also use it confuse people, or even make them pick non-good picks. For me this is just another part of the game :)

Naming someone like Haussler last year, or Breschel this year, effectively makes it a 32 rider game as opposed to 33 as everyone picks him, which is ultimately less interesting. There's some good banter and bluffing on this thread which is great but I think it would be better to have none at all until after the deadline, rather than some good and some massive spoilers.

I guess we'll just agree to disagree then :)

Hugo seems to think along similar lines to me. With any luck he'll be strict next year and ban anyone who mentions nailed on picks next winter ;)

Honestly I think that we should keep name dropping out of the thread. Sure, it's interesting to discuss various riders and a lot of those mentioned probably don't influence anyone's picks, but I fear a scenario like last year where a certain Vuelta winner was revealed and had a huge influence on the game.

We can discuss picks when the new season starts :)

I think the problem is the long wait until the game starts. Boredom etc.

I propose we screw these 'little races' next year and the game ends on november 15th or something and the game enter date deadline is dec 1 or something. Then we can discuss and banter all december long. Anyway I don't mind people revealing some of thier team or making discussions, but maybe naming names after names just for the sake of it ala the last couple days is a bit meh.

I get the whole "it's just a game, relax" the game is about "analzing riders" etc. But still, to some degree a cool aspect of the game is missing obvious picks. Those who study the CQ ranking hard (personaly I went with riders whom I see doing well, and not the "popular bargains" anyway so yeh) probably deserve the right of some "mystery".

The glass half full thing, you know ;)

I very much prefer this to banning people naming riders, though the only problem will be lacking information on transfers, programs etc.

I dunno, Haussler was in like 71 out of 88 teams, but not many others came close... Cobo was in what, 39 teams? Less than half, anyway. I do agree that naming riders blatantly is a bit frustrating at times (especially when it's not a neo-pro or someone we can have a debate about), but I don't think it will have THAT huge an impact on the game. Plus 42 people have already picked their teams. Honestly, I feel like if someone needed a tip this late on to get Breschel on their team, I don't really fear their other 32 picks too much.

I know alot of people are going to have him on their team, but I'm not going with Henao on mine.

ACF's alleged posting of his team for 20 seconds, originally struck me as a rash grab for attention (like most of his actions:p) but after continuing to read this thread and seeing people continue to throw names around, I now see it as a clever and just protest at the spoiling of the game.

Last year, much of the chatter started dying down by March and even more so by April.

My point being that there is an expiry date on when conversation of this will turn people away and wouldnt it be better to have these discussions after everyones team is revealed than to waste them now?

Of course thats just me presenting the "dont throw names around argument". I understand that those who say " we can post what we want", also have a case.

Everything I do is clever and cunning. Why are you so surprised?

I'll post my team and leave it up if people keep complaining!

You can't "ban" someone from playing a game which is non-excludable, anyone can pick 33 riders under 7500 points, whether they are on the spreadsheet or not.

Last arguments in the "name dropping discussion" before i call it a day:

The "name discussion" is a key part of every off season time. There are several threads like "riders to watch" or so, where these names appear no matter whether you like it or not. Maybe you, who are against dropping names (especially those who want to ban for it), should ask admins to ban these threads first before accusing anyone of revealing something that ain't your own property (stolen from you) because otherwise i find it pretty hypocritical.

I understand the point that the game is going to 32-rider instead of 33 but refuse to agree that it is a matter of a dropped name (names). I don't believe that among those who has already submitted (and sent) their teams might be more than 10% without Breschel (if Hugo would be so kind to reveal this statistics to prove or disprove such a theory of mine).

Obvious choices are obvious (while risky bets are risky) no matter whether they are revealed or hidden under a veil of secrecy. Personally I find it much more interesting to discuss names now, when the game is running instead of doing it when the game is over and calculations begin. Sad to see that the most of us more than just don't share this opinion but also take offence at it :(

To use an obvious example, velogames don't publish your teams until the race has started. Now why do you think they do that?

I’m sorry, I don’t play velogames, but maybe because this is its rule to hold the privacy of entrants’ choices? Here is the same, Hugo doesn’t reveal your team to us before the deadline, but there is no rule to hold me from refusal of this privacy regarding to my choices, correct?
