Dubai this year doesn't have a TT and judging from the map it looks like they made the hilly stage a bit harder. However it still has the same finish, so unfortunately it's probably still too easy for Purito.

no, it's not, it's completely different. The final uphill part itself is very short, but extremely steep (17% for the final ~100m)

Oh really? My bad then. I can't find more than a map. Judging from the map they take the same road to Hatta as last year, but before that there is more through the hilly area. So I assumed the finish was the same but they just buffed the stage up a bit before that. But yeah I only looked at a map, so my guess was somewhat speculative.....

it's basically just 200m uphill, will be interesting to see how it will turn out.

His older brother is in Dubai, Peter is doing Qatar and Oman. However I thought also that Peter would do Dubai but apparently not.

Update 4: The Italian Job

Take a week with a scattering of 1.1 races in different parts of the globe, a start to the European season where form is uncertain and the big names aren't all in action yet, and you're bound to get a CQ game result where teams with less popular riders end up on top. So it's fitting that the game's least popular team out of 155 teams - Zam Olyas' all-Italian team - comes out on top this week by a significant margin. From being one of 5 teams to pick Pelucchi, to being one of 11 teams to pick Formolo, 9 to pick Viviani, 16 to pick Visconti... it all came together for Zam's team with 48 points here, 40 points there. A low scoring week for most, it didn't shake up the overall classification too much, but it was an entertaining week to see whose teams scored with which riders.

This Week's Top Scorers

1. Zam Olyas 385
2. jeroenk 246
3. ray200 223
4. afpm 190
5. LaVelocipede 194
5. martinaagard 194

Interesting note: below this point, there are 5 teams tied for 10th place on the week with 163 points, but none of them have the same collection of riders. Just thought that was a rather notable and unique situation.

This Week's High Movers

1. ray200 (+61)
2. jeroenk (+54)
3. LaVelocipede (+48)
4. Ludwig_ (+43)
5. afpm90 (+38)

Thanks for the update!

I'm glad I move up a bit but I also know that the early season is very volatile and it is easy to move up or down very quickly.

Hugo, Amateur, Skibby and Hitch are right ahead of me so I'm in pretty good company :D

So far Cav seems to be a safe/good pick. 0 points scored in San Luis and Dubai last year, now he already has 73 and depending on stage 3, he can still score a lot more.

Of course this will only matter to the 35 teams that don't have him, but it's still nice to be able to do some early small conclusions.

My team this week:

Dubai

Cavendish
Rodriguez
Brajkovic

totally depends on the third stage - the climbers seem to be saying it's too short, the sprinters seem to be saying it's for the climbers. Cav got off to a good start, of course, but if stage 3 is really a 17% finish, that screams J-Rod.

Herald Sun Tour

Ewan
Goss

Like Cav, they are both popular picks, but then again, if they win it's kind of 'maintenance' in the form of preventing other, less popular picks that other teams have from scoring top points. So I'm happy to cheer for them.

Besseges

Latour
Schumacher
Hivert

Who knows - Hivert has done well at this race, but it's early February in France. I'll just hope for the best.

Etruschi

unless Zordan or Filosi get tossed in the final lineup, I've got no one. This is more of a 'hope Cav wins to stay afloat' week, with a little bit of hope for J-Rod too.

Had 6 guys on Besseges, only 3 made the 53 riders cut and Shumacher already DNF'd... Anyway not bad. Bob Jungels is one of the best TT'ers that made it.

Pretty decent day for me. Ewan and Cav are obvious picks that everybody has, but it's nice to see them scoring a bit. But in Bess?ges all four riders I have, Jungels, Gougeard, Groenewegen and Hivert, made the front more or less. I was kind of hoping it would come to a bigger sprint for Groenewegen or a late attack from Gougeard. (He tried, but 'alas.) At least Jungels is looking nice for the TT. But it isn't over yet. If they keep on racing like this who knows what will happen. :p

Wow Ratto, Valgren and Ruffoni finished 7,9,10 today! but that earns me 0 points ;) my only hope is that tomorrow's finish isn't too hard and one of them (most likely Valgren) can pull something off
