Do national championships get you cq points?

Yeah, they do. A whole lot even for 1st class countries (Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Netherlands this year) - 140 for 1st place RR and 70 for the ITT

That was last year though, for this year you have to switch Germany for Belgium. ;)

But yeah, the Colombian RR will be 100 points for the winner.

Also, I was checking the points and now I see why you said it wrong now Flo! CQ lists it wrong themselves at the explanation for their points. Or rather, they say what it is for 2014, but it's 2015 now, so I guess they didn't update it yet. :p

Cameron Meyer starting to look like a decent pick... 7 points more and he will be in profit!

Cav also looking like a most pick, so I'm glad I picked him. If I would've also picked Theuns instead of Teuns I could've had all this week tours winners! That would've been really cool...

Senechal is a pick I'm very happy about, not necessarily in this race, but in general. Surprised not a lot of people picked him. Last year as a 20 year old neo pro he did 14th in E3, 17th in Dwars door Vlaanderen, 19th in Omloop, 6th in Dunkerque, 11th in the Tour of Belgium. He's a great talent for classics + he's got a good TT which means he can do well in flattish stage races which is good for the cq rankings. :)
S?n?chal is one of my favorite rider and I follow his career very carefully. I really expect him to step up this year and I think he will be a major pick.

He is literally the first guy I put in my first draft and has been in my team ever since. He is a superstar in the making. As a teenager and stagiaire with OPQS he was so impressive that Boonen himself asked the team management to sign him. Unfortunately (for them) they didn't have the space on their roster so it didn't happen. Last year he was very well placed after Arenberg which is pretty impressive for a 20-year old neo-pro but unfortunately mechanicals ruined his race afterwards (he still finished with Pozzato though).

He has great work ethics which isn't always the case for younger guys. It means that he should make big improvements this year. I remember reading an article where Petit said they went for a 7-hour ride together in horrendous weather and afterwards when Petit went home, S?n?chal decided to extend his training session for another hour.

Also he said he was working on his sprint too, so that should yield a few more points as well. As you mention he also has a very solid TT which will only get better. He has the experience of having actually raced the classics this time around. He was pretty unlucky last year (he was already better than his cq score indicate) so this year if everything goes smoothly, he should clear 600 points easily.

For me I guess S?n?chal, Wellens are my favourite picks this year. :)

Pretty good week for me by the way. Cav, Jungels, Gougeard, Howson, Ewan and a few smaller points. Think I scored something like 500-550 this week. Gougeard is my rarest pick, being picked only 5 times. Last year he won two 1.1 races albeit from the break and seeing him race a couple of times convinced me he has a lot of potential, but I didn't really know what to expect from him this year. However so far it's looking good with his ride in Bess?ges.

I was kind of hoping Dayer would win the Colombian RR at some point though, that would have really made for a perfect week. :p

Next week ain't gonna be so great in Qatar though......

Etoile de Bess?ges (2.1)
Forgot about BENITO DIEZ Miguel Angel who was the only rider to score 3 points for me at that stage race.

G.P. Costa degli Etruschi (1.1)
Glad to see M?HLBERGER Gregor isn't only a fangirl pick. 12 points.

National Championships Colombia RR (NC)

HENAO GOMEZ Sebastian 10 points. I don't know if other riders of mine scored as I haven't found the result for the top 20.

edit: LOPEZ MORENO Miguel Angel 20, HENAO GOMEZ Sebastian down to 9 points.

A 'maintenance' week for me (ie. my top scorers were the really popular picks, but they serve the purpose of taking away points from other riders at least) with a couple of ok outcomes otherwise but absolutely nothing special.

Dubai - Cav took it, 5 points from the likes of Gaudin, Brajko and Rodriguez.

HST - Ewan got 50 points, didn't have anyone else but Goss so that's okay.

Besseges - Latour gets a very surprising (I didn't know he had a TT at all) 40 points, getting him to over 50% value in one race, and Hivert gets 21.

Jungels was virtually the last guy off my team - I went back and forth between him and Stannard for awhile, and ultimately Stannard was the guy I was feeling more when I made the decision, partially because I think he could do well in the Worlds, beyond the classics this year. But oh well.

Good start in Qatar - Sagan, Stannard, Stuyven all made the front group, with EBH losing 25 seconds. You can top 20 this race just by making the front group each day, so I'm hopeful the rest of the way will go smoothly too.

Yeah I like him too, it's just that I read in an interview with him that he may need to work for Bouhanni this year...

I saw that too but I also saw articles saying he won't have to work for Bouhanni. Bouhanni came over to Cofidis with his personal lead out man (Soupe) so I don't know how useful S?n?chal could actually be to Bouhanni. To be honest, I feel that it would make more sense for Bouhanni and S?n?chal to do their own separate thing. Bu then Cofidis isn't exactly the best managed team in the world.

Finally Bevin was able to capitalise on his form, so this performance overrides my anger at his not taking part in the NZ Cycle Classic. Hopefully he can ride some of the Asian races and not just the Australian NRS ones, but a profit of over 700% already is very satisfying.

Update #5: the asian scores a continent of points; trackstand waits for the right moment and sprints to first

February has begun, and things are getting serious, CQ-points-wise. With two of the most popular picks in Cavendish and Ewan scoring some good points in their respective races the points were always going to be high, but the winner scoring almost 700 points in a week in early February is quite impressive. 29 teams had over 500 points this week; to give some perspective, last week's leader had just over 1100 points cumulative. Needless to say, there are some changes.

With five continents hosting races with a decent chunk of CQ points this week (African and Colombian championships, Besseges in Europe, Dubai in Asia, HST in Oz), it's fitting that our weekly leader's name suggests an entire continent unto itself. the asian takes top spot by the nearest of margins - there were several teams who had the big winners from all 3 stage races (Meyer, Cav, Jungels), but the asian decided to pick Uran as well, who scored 90 points from the nationals. Second place Ceramiche_Cauz went a different route with Degenkolb instead of Meyer, and finished a mere 2 points back of the weekly win.

This Week's Top Scorers

Rank Team Points this week
1 the asian 674
2 Ceramiche_Cauz 672
3 Tuarts 646
4 Jancouver 629
5 ironted 625

In the realm of High Movers, the top 2 also take the cake, with the asian moving a ludicrous 82 places up the standings. All in all, there was a lot of movement, with 28 teams moving up more than 20 points, and 29 teams moving downward at least that much.

This Week's High Movers

Rank Team Up/down
1 the asian (+82)
2 Ceramiche_Cauz (+63)
3 uspostal (+59)
4 ironted (+56)
5 Tuarts (+52)

I never came back to the Green Jersey competition last week, sorry guys. In short, the contest is a mix of top overall contenders and opportunists who score high in a given week, which was as I had hoped to begin with. Zam won last week and got 45 points, as the asian did this week. Of our 5 weekly winners, only the week 1 co-winners of kjellus and ingsve have gotten more points since, but it's Object with a 2nd and 5th so far that is in the lead. As of now, there are 72 teams who have scored at least a point.

Points Competition Totals

Rank Team Points
1 Object 57
2 ingsve 55
3 trackstand 48
4 Kjellus 47
5 Zam_Olyas 45
5 the asian 45
5 Ferminal 45
5 Vesica 45
9 Ceramiche_Cauz 42
10 jeroenk 41

In the overall, Vesica's reign at the top comes crashing down to earth with the same 'live by the unique pick, die by not having enough popular picks' credo that brought Zam to the top of the weekly charts last week. After reaching the top due to the savvy pick of Dennis but also the unique pick of Dumoulin, Vesica drops to 8th due to not having Cavendish. It's fitting that, on the weekend of Dennis' hour record on the track, one of his beneficiaries in this game is named trackstand. After hanging around the podium for a few weeks, this week was enough to convincingly separate himself from the pack, nursing a lead of nearly 100 points.

Top 10 Overall

Rank Up/down Team Points
1 (+2) trackstand 1579
2 (+4) PeterB 1487
3 (+1) Armchair cyclist 1473
4 (-2) Object 1456
5 (+5) theyoungest 1435
6 (+2) Roderick 1432
7 (+2) Blues in the bottle 1404
8 (-1) ansimi 1386
9 (-8) Vesica 1343
10 (+5) Geraint Too Fast 1323

Wow I scored even higher than I thought, almost 600 points, 7th of the week apparently. :)

Still only on the 92nd spot though because of an appalling TDU. This week won't be pretty either with what looks to be about 0 points from the Qatar GC. Kudus scored five points in the African championship TTT though, so I'll be alright.

Nice to see myself for the third week in a row in the Top-10, still moving up. Ofcourse this means almost nothing, especially because I have 6 Aussies. But better to start this way than starting completely at the bottom.

Well, you can never count your chickens in the unpredictable winds of Qatar, but a quick check of the standings shows that no one ahead of me (ie. in the top 17 places) has the combo of Stuyven, Stannard and Sagan, and although many have Stannard, only one person ahead of me has either Stuyven (DJ Sprtsch) or Sagan (Geraint Too Fast). I will have my fingers crossed over the next few days...

4th of the week and 19th overall! Yay! Not sure if that will happen again :D

BTW If I didnt leave out Ewan (on purpose as announced in this thread prior to the start of the game) I would have extra 50 points and the title for the weekly top scorer.

But since this game is not about coulda-shoulda I'm happy being in the top 20 probably first time since the first or second edition of this game :D
