Yes, fourth of the week, +17 ranks and in the top 50 of the game for the first time. Moreover I've already made good points again today, with Felline winning the prologue in Romandie.

Update #16 - Romandie the key for jeroenk

There were only two races above 2.2 completed this week however whereas sometimes that might mean not much activity this time given some of the main protagonists, particularly in Switzerland, have been selected in this game there were plenty of points scored as well as some big movement. This is also the final update for April so we will look at the best performers of the month.

Weekly High Scorers

Rank Team Points
1 jeroenk 725
2 Guybrush 651
3 GP Blanco 648
4 Object 613
5 greenedge 595

Jeroenk is this weeks top scorer mainly due to impressive performances in Romandie, namely a stage win and second place for Simon Yates and Fabio Felline's stage win and fourth place overall, this was backed up by Elia Viviani's stage win and some solid placings from Alexander Edmondson. Guybrush is in second place thanks to having the winners of the two biggest races finishing this week, Serge Pauwels in Yorkshire and Richie Porte in Romandie they also had a nice contribution in that race with Emanuel Buchmann's 10th place. Finishing off the podium is GP Blanco who as well as Felline had final stage winner and third place in GC, Primoz Roglic, who is looking very good value for the three people who picked him, Stefan Kung also had an input due to his breakaway stage win and points jersey.

Weekly High Movers

Rank Team Up/Down
1 greenedge +28
2 Leadbelly +23
2 Pantani1 +23
4 Object +22
5 CraZyCaLL +19

Greenedge is this weeks high mover and their 5th place on the week sees them move into the top 25, leadbelly is up into the top 50 whilst Pantani1 will be pleased with Tejay van Garderen showing signs of life ahead of the Giro, meanwhile Object has surged into the top 20, so some significant increases.

Monthly Top Scorers

Rank Team Points
1 Maaaaaaaarten 1761
2 the asian 1718
3 Gigs_98 1651
4 GP Blanco 1578
5 postmanhat 1561

Maaaaaaaarten is this months highest scorer, Michal Kwiatkowski's (383) strong showing in the three Ardennes races and Primoz Roglic's (408) 2 top five finishes and three stage wins across Romandie and Itzulia being the key reason although of course many riders contributed, the strong April has moved Maaaaaaaarten into the top five. A very similar story for the asian with the same two riders the only difference being they are not quite in the top five.

Monthly High Movers

Rank Team Up/Down
1 Gigs_98 +44
2 Brullnux +34
2 Falze +34
4 postmanhat +33
4 Trudgin +33

The highest mover this month is Gigs_98 who last week was happy to move into the top 50 for the first time, another strong performance this week sees them move up another 12 places, they also have the rejuvenated Pole in their team as well as Felline. Brullnux and Falze are now both sitting just inside the top 50. Trudgin's unique pick Ion Izagirre scoring 499 points helps them make it onto the list

Green Jersey Competition

Rank Team Points
1 the asian 139
2 Kazistuta 127
3 GP Blanco 117
4 Kryvo 110
5 Googolplex 109

After the last update the asian had moved into a tie at the top of the standings however now they are out front on their own, GP Blanco has moved up into 3rd, no one else has moved into the top ten however jeroenk, leadbelly, trudgin and greenedge have all made it into the top 20 leaving them within striking distance of the top five.

Top 10 Overall

Rank Up/Down Team Points
1 (-) Googolplex 5616
2 (-) Kazistuta 5556
3 (+11) jeroenk 5551
4 (+5) Maaaaaaaarten 5365
5 (+2) 18-Valve. (pithy) 5350
6 (+7) the asian 5331
7 (+17) GP Blanco 5233
8 (-) HelgeBlendet 5226
9 (-6) Roubaix 5218
10 (-6) tom_jelte 5164

Once more the top two are unchanged and once more Kazistuta has closed the gap on Googolplex and is now just 60 points behind. jeroenk being the biggest scorer has really paid dividends as they are now in the final podium spot. GP Blanco wasn't quite in the high movers this week but wasn't far off as they have moved from outside the top twenty into 7th place whilst the asian is back in the top ten, the unfortunate three to drop out this week are Kryvo, fauniera and jpettersen.

Now onto the Giro!

Thank for the update!

Really pleased with last month, but I don't think I have a very good team for the Giro, so next month might be tough........

Disappointing week... I had high hopes for Spilak in Romandie and Kruijswijk in Yorkshire, but it looks like Spilak is past his best days, while Kruijswijk decided to rest so he DNS the last stage. Only Küng saved the week a little bit.

Giro will be very important for me with Gaviria and Kruijswijk (+ Landa, Mezgec, Martinez, Ponzi, Pelucchi).

Thank you, snccdcno!

My Giro squad:

Pelucchi: could score some points in the sprints
Dombrowski: every point he gets I consider a win, has done absolutely nothing so far this year
Foliforov: part 1 of my Russians..I hope for a stage win
Hepburn: workhorse, no expectations, maybe maybe something in the TT, but I doubt it
De Plus: domestique, maybe he gets the chance in a break, top30
Zakarin: part 2 of my Russians..Stage win + top 5 would be very nice
Mamykin: part 3 of my Russians..domestique for part 2 I guess. We'll see how far he gets
Landa: I don't see the hype about him, top5 would be great imo
Rodriguez: young Spanish climber, finished last year as a 21-year old. No great expectations, but maybe a little surprise

Without much confidence I share my Giro team:

DENNIS Rohan
TEUNS Dylan
DOMBROWSKI Joseph Lloyd
EWAN Caleb
HEPBURN Michael
DE PLUS Laurens
GAVIRIA RENDON Fernando
MARTINELLI Davide
DEIGNAN Philip
STUYVEN Jasper

I have sprinters and numbers. My fingers are crossed for Dennis. I suspect many of us will be praying for Dombrowski.

My team was truly weak in the cobbled Classics but now it is payback time with the Giro d'Italia.
My riders in the Corsa Rosa are:
KRUIJSWIJK Steven
YATES Adam
ROLLAND Pierre
GENIEZ Alexandre
WOODS Michael
FRAILE MATARRANZ Omar
DOMBROWSKI Joseph Lloyd
MAMYKIN Matvey
(RUFFONI Nicola)
CONTI Valerio
HAAS Nathan
PEDERSEN Mads
LUDVIGSSON Tobias
DE PLUS Laurens
Top 5 in the GC for both Kruijswijk and Adam Yates, maybe a podium spot for Steven.
Rolland should be fighting for the Maglia Azzurra as Fraile and Conti, the three of them also targeting a stage win in the mountains (like Dombrowski,Mamykin and perhaps Geniez).
Haas and Woods could be potential stage winners in the hilly stages, while Ludvigsson has the potential for a top 10 in the time trials.

That's a solid Giro squad, Pirate!

Just like GP Blanco's team, mine is depending heavily on Gav and Landa:
ALBANESE Vincenzo
TEUNS Dylan
PONZI Simone
DE PLUS Laurens
GAVIRIA RENDON Fernando
MAMYKIN Matvey
LANDA MEANA Mikel

I'm not sure what to think of my team. I've got got plenty of climbers who could earn some points but who could just as well underwhelm massively. At least Rolland (and to a lesser extent Carthy) looked alright during Trentino, so besides Landa and Ewan I'm also expecting something from him.

Giro d'Italia
CICCONE Giulio
DILLIER Silvan
ROLLAND Pierre
CARTHY Hugh
DOMBROWSKI Joe
EWAN Caleb
DE PLUS Laurens
FRAILE Omar
MAMYKIN Matvey
LANDA Mikel
MARTINEZ Daniel Felipe

He won 2 stages in the Tour of Croatia against Nizzolo,Modolo and Minali.
I expected some top 5 placings from him in this Giro, but he's a piece of **** alongside Pirazzi.

A decent team but it even could have been much better with Aru and König. With them I would have Landa, Pozzovivo, Aru and König, all as contenders for a possible top 10. Moreover I don't have any sprinter in my team which is a big disadvantage against all the teams with Gav and Ewan, who will probably get lots of points in the next three weeks.

Like Gigs, I banked on Aru and König for the Giro... well.. nevermind..

Still got a bunch of guys who got make things exciting with attacks or so

Teuns
Dillier
Ciccone
Dombrowski
Landa
Mamykin

So basically Landa for GC and everyone else either helping or joining doomed breaks. Dombo might try for a stage late in the race I guess. Is Ciccone fit enough to go for the KOM? Mamykin looked rather bad so far, or was it the perfect build-up? Dillier might try for a stage and I have no idea what to expect from Teuns...
Sprinter? Pfff... it's the Giro we are talking about...

I just noticed that Pöstlberger, who wasn't even picked once, would have been a pretty good pick. He only costed 36 points and already has 214 points this year. And it's only May

My unique pick Filosi finally delivers in GP Lugano and doubles up his 2016 CQ score.
On the other hand,Haas messed up in the finale of Giro Stage 3 getting only a fourth place. He should have waited until the last 300 m to make his attack IMO.

Game over for me. Not having Kwiat is already a 1000+ points mistake that is impossible to overcome. While Gaviria delivered today, I was hoping Gaviria & Ewan would be on every sprinting stage podium at the Giro. Rohan Dennis is also done and any major GC points would be a pure miracle.

Other mishaps

Aru - Sick
Degenkolb - So far way behind expectations
Landa - So far way behind expectations.
Bonifazio - Where is he? I had some hopes for spring campaign (MSR) and the Giro
Oomen - Another talented youngster under-performing
Navardauskas - Sick
Viviani - SKY snub
Adrien Costa - The California snub was unexpected, thats where I was hoping to get all the points since Cali is now a WT race. Also seems that he is having some team issues as he decided to go to the PanAm games. I think he is regretting signing for Axeon
Leo Konig - Sick
Kung - Behind expectations
Dombrowski - Why do I even touch any Cannondale rider
Machado - Only picked as I thought he will be on every team
Van Den Broeck - Same as Machado, at 133 points, I thought he will be popular and could double his points even being a helper.
Muhlberger - So far under-performing
Breschel - He is done - mistake on my part
Fetancur - What was I thinking? There is no hope for this guy. He is mentally sick
Greg Daniel - Injured the first part of the season
Schachman - invisible / helper
Schlegel - Broke a collarbone early this season but made the Giro squad, hopefuly he can get in a break and score some points in the mountains
Intxuasti - Where is he?
Ponzi - Probably a dirty guy that wont deliver without a juice
Kamna - Who is that again?
Van Stayen - Did not hear his name this year. Did he quit cycling?
Arredondo - Is he the next Fatancur?
Doull - Too young for the big boy league?
Malori - Probably done for good
McNulty - Broke his hip early this season

All in all, I have six seriously sick/injured riders and one mentally sick (red) and no Kwiatkowski

Oh, I forgot to post my Giro team! That would be a pity, I have some very handy GC riders this year, and a 9-man Giro team, as it should be :)

GC riders (Sky has 2? I have 3!)
POZZOVIVO Domenico
YATES Adam
LANDA Mikel

Sprinters (ehm...)
PELUCCHI Matteo
PONZI Simone

Mountain attackers
DOMBROWSKI Joe

Helpers (points for finishing)
DILLIER Silvan
MAMYKIN Matvey
DEIGNAN Philip

In other news, Trofimov has already some first points! :)

Update #17 - Cheap picks provide a lot of points for GTF!

Whilst the start of the first Grand Tour of the year took most of the attention there were of course various other races going on, some of which didn’t have the strongest startlists which can often mean two things, there aren’t that many riders selected taking part but those that are have a good chance to score points, this proved the case for this week’s best performers who supplemented points in the Giro with some from across these other races.

Weekly high Scorers

Rank Team Points
1 Geraint Too Fast 401
2 Jakob747 389
3 Squire 365
4 tom_jelte 359
5 fauniera 355

For the second time in three weeks Geraint Too Fast is the highest scorer, their main contributions were Fernando Gaviria's stage win plus pink jersey and John Degenkolb's third place in Frankfurt (those two were ubiquitous throughout the top 10) what put them over the top were good additional points from some inexpensive picks, Richard Carapaz's 6th in Madrid, Eduard Vorganov's 5th in Azerbaidjan and unique pick Davide Orrico who finished on the podium in GP Lugano, meaning that three riders who cost a total of 24 points scored 172 this week.

In second place with a South American flavour was Jakob747 who as well as the aforementioned Ecuadorian had some solid performances in Spain from young Colombians Aldemar Reyes and Hernan Aguirre, the latter of which picked up two top ten results on GC this week. Finishing off the podium is squire who also had Carapaz and Vorganov and cemented their position with Andrea Vendrame's 5th place in Switzerland.

Weekly High Movers

Rank Team Up/Down
1 Geraint Too Fast (+13)
2 Jakob747 (+11)
3 Schleckamagurky (+10)
4 Popchu (+8)
5= comodoro (+7)
5= LaFlorecita (+7)

Geraint Too Fast comes out on top of these standings as well and has moved into 25th place, Schleckamagurky moves up in part thanks to Jasper Stuyven's three top ten finishes. LaFlorecita and comodoro both have Caleb Ewan.

Green Jersey Competition

Rank Team Points
1 the asian 139
2 Kazistuta 127
3 Geraint Too Fast 120
4 GP Blanco 117
5 fauniera 112

Unsurprisingly given the two recent weekly wins Geraint Too Fast is now in 3rd place in this competition whilst the top two are unchanged, fauniera's 5th place has earned them enough points to move into the top five, below that Blues in the bottle has advanced into the top ten.

Top 10 Overall

Rank Up/Down Team Points
1 (+2) jeroenk 5802
2 (-1) Googolplex 5781
3 (-1) Kazistuta 5709
4 (-) Maaaaaaaarten 5624
5 (-) 18-Valve. (pithy) 5613
6 (-) the asian 5587
7= (-) GP Blanco 5523
7= (+3) tom_jelte 5523
9 (+2) fauniera 5512
10 (+5) Squire 5424

Googolplex's stranglehold at the top of the standings has been broken, not by Kazistuta who had been closing in recently but by last updates high scorer, jeroenk, who followed up that with a solid 42nd which was enough to put them just into the lead ahead of two non-Gaviria teams. Not much movement below that as last week’s 4th through 7th are unchanged, however Squire and fauniera both re-enter the top ten.
