Update #4: First place is nbd for jsg

The season is still revving up, with 2.1 races giving some of us our first glimpses of parts of our team, the slow unveil that takes place through January and February allowing us to see if our picks are getting off to a good start or are worryingly invisible. These little nibbles will have to tide us over until Opening Weekend and Paris-Nice blow the whole thing wide open in a month. Even though the CQ update season is only 4 weeks long, there are some familiar faces returning at the top of the charts this week.

This Week's Top Scorers

Rank Team Points this week
1 Londonpat 519
2 just_some_guy 425
3 yoyokt 376
4 karaev 345
5 oliveira 337

A fantastic week for Londonpat, one of two teams with Dylan Van Baarle, who scored 129 points this week (and one of 99 with Marcel Kittel, who scored 80). But it's the supporting cast that really puts it over the top, with at least 25 points from Barguil, Aru, Gaviria, Sivakov, Halvorsen, Lucas Hamilton, Van Asbroeck, McLay, and Evenepoel. It's a team sport! just some guy comes in with a great showing in second, being one of two teams to own the other 2.1 winner this week, or should I say Winner (142 points). Again, with help from a solid supporting cast, including Porte on top of 5 of the other riders named above. Third place goes to yoyokt, who has decent points from no fewer than 7 of the aforementioned riders, but no 2.1 winner to put their team any higher on the list.

This Week's High Movers

Rank Team Up/down
1 Londonpat (+47)
2 karaev (+34)
3 GP Blanco (+29)
4 LukasCPH (+28)
4 skidmark (+28)

Londonpat doubles up here, although the other two from the podium were already high up in the overall so they didn't have much farther to move and thus aren't represented here. Still a lot of movement this early in the game, and karaev leaps over 30 points (only notable rider not mentioned yet - Bernal) for second while GP Blanco squeezes out the podium spot (the other Van Baarle owner!)

Green Jersey Competition

Rank Team Total
1 just_some_guy 95
2 Googolplex 56
3 yoyokt 50
4 TheArt 48
5 Londonpat 45

just some guy blasts into the lead of this competition, adding 35 points to the 30 from week 1 and the 30 from week 2. Seriously impressive start to the season, only two other teams are within a weekly win (45 points) already! yoyokt grabs 30 points on top of 20 from week 2, and Londonpat squeezes into the top 5 solely on the basis of the weekly win. This competition is getting off to a flying start already.

Top 10 Overall

Rank Up/down Team Points
1 (+1) just_some_guy 1018
2 (+8) yoyokt 887
3 (-2) MADRAZO 879
4 (-) Blues in the bottle 839
5 (+4) Amis_Velo 835
6 (-3) TheArt 826
7 (-1) PremierAndrew 816
8 (-1) Squire 794
9 (+47) Londonpat 790
10 (-2) Otoxiep87 785

Continuing this week's dominance, just some guy becomes the first team to cross 1000 points in the game, and is rewarded with the #1 spot overall. With a solid weekly showing building on an already impressive start, yoyokt slots into second while last week's leader MADRAZO slides slightly to third. Lots of big leaps this week but the top 10 is starting to gain consistency, with only Londonpat jumping in, and Googolplex falling out.

This week is a little quiet but keeps things moving, with two 2.1 races in France and Spain.

Porte is behind schedule, unfortunately. He'll need to podium the UAE Tour if he is to reach 500 pts before March, which I kinda hoped for. I'll be livid if he scores less than Trentin+Keukeleire, who I took out to fit Porte in. The only thing worse than cheering for a rider I don't like, is cheering for a rider I don't like who does poorly for my team.

What about this week, then?

Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana (2.1)

VALLS Rafael
CHAVES Esteban
NIZZOLO Giacomo
BOUHANNI Nacer

One could hope Valls was given a free role in his home race, but he didn't look good in Australia. Hopefully Nizzolo gets off the mark.

Etoile de Bessèges (2.1)
VENTURINI Clément
FELLINE Fabio
THEUNS Edward
BONIFAZIO Niccolò
COQUARD Bryan
LIETAER Eliot
PLANCKAERT Baptiste
EIKING Odd Christian

There should be some sprint points here.

Cattaneo scored 9 points (16th GC Vuelta San Juan) but they are missing from both teams' (mine and La Florecita) results for the week.
Looks like the wrong Cattaneo is listed in the results. I've sent a message, see if they will change it.

I thought the reappearance of Marco Cattaneo 9 years after his last CQ points seemed odd when I was sorting data for the Emerging games, but I just shrugged and thought, "Eh, San Juan..."

As Valverde is the defending champion of the race, it's unlikely Valls has a free role and more likely he and the entire team are all in for their team leader to defend his title. Hopefully can still do something in that support role. (He's also on my team.)

Hmm, what does this week hold for my hopes and dreams?

Valenciana

Esteban Chaves
Giacomo Nizzolo
Nacer Bouhanni

It won't get me too far ahead in the game, but I'm hoping Chaves is recovered and has a great season, CQ game aside. Nizzolo is one of my higher-value riders (being chosen quite rarely) so I'm hoping he'll get off to a good start, while Bouhanni is on about half the teams so points for him would definitely be an advantage.

Etoile de Besseges

Fabio Felline
Edward Theuns
Bryan Coquard
Ramunas Navardauskas
Baptiste Planckaert
Tom Van Asbroeck

Well, some possibilities here. Coquard and Navardauskas are two of my rarest picks, and Planckaert/Van Asbroeck can always show up for the .1 stuff. Theuns would logically be a sprint option for Trek, and Felline can do anything on his day. Don't know what to expect, but I'm excited to get a sense of where these guys are at this year.

Mixed feelings about the start of the year so far. Mostly because Gibbons was one of my last cuts and I shuffeled the team around to get Max Kanter into it who did nothing so far....

Bonifazio is the big bright spot carrying me so far, but some of the fast men showed their legs (Gaviria, Kittel, Philipsen, and today Trentin, and Bouhanni). Evenepoel was definitely better than expected, so I'm pretty happy with him aswell (not that it counts much with almost everyone having him).

This week riding for me

Bessèges

Felline
Theuns
Bonifazio
Van den Berg

Valenciana

Rosa
Trentin
Chaves
Bouhanni
Nizzolo

I read an interview with Beñat Intxausti today. He will make his season debut in Murcia. He feels good and has been able to train properly for many months now and hopes to regain his former level.

If he really does that he could score a bunch of points in the many small Spanish stage races.

Curious about this week. Dropped Gibbons from my team in the shuffling, wasn't a specific person I switched him for but more in the early round trying to get the framework right and couldn't get him back in. Although I do have Meijtes
Besseges looks like a bit of a wash with only a few points potentially from the final ITT

But looks like a low scoring week and I have a scattering of riders getting points in Valenciana so who knows
