It really does look uninspiring, I wish Oman would be 7 stages and have these kind of names in the WT. Its basically 7 pan flat stages with a MTF on two of them.. will be tuning in to them tho since my man is riding.

Yeah, Oman always seems like the best race by far in the Middle East but they never show it.

They do have helicopters and camera bikes up and about, but show it live? Nah.

It looks like they've sent Valverde the best possibly TTT lineup the team can come up minus Soler for this race. You've got the two TT specialists on the team, plus Amador. For the mountains (as they are) he's got Amador, Fernandez, and Castrillo.

Also Movistar's line up is Castrillo not Bennati.

Interview that Alejandro did, he specifically said the reason he wanted to do this race is because it's almost a guarantee that the weather will be very good for it. Well, at least I can understand this reasoning.

And of course money is not bad either.. :D

I'm right there with you. I'm sure the entrance fee they are paying to get some of the top riders there is the real reason these guys, including Alejandro, are there. However, at least he's come up with a 2nd reason that actually makes some sense for going to it.

I am completely fanboying now. Am in Abu Dhabi for work (unfortunately schedule doesn't allow me to see the race) and went to cycle on Hudayriat island. Unfortunately the track was closed due to reconnaissance for the race. Got to see the pros in action and even exchange couple of words with Kwiatkowski - although literally couple of seconds because they were heading back from training ride.
Completely bummed I won't be able to be there today or tomorrow. Will try to catch one of the finishes in Dubai though (if I remember correctly it is on friday or saturday)

On the bright side you at least got to see some of them today during their training rides. Hope you can see one of the stage finishes.

Might this become the first stage race in a couple of weeks that Astana doesn't win? Or could G. Izagirre become their first repeat winner?

I find it quite funny how it's the inaugural UAE-Tour, yet Valverde is being referred to as the defending champion, having won Abu Dhabi last year. Shouldn't Viviani be considered a (sort of) defending champion too? Since he won Dubai last year.
Though I guess it's less a matter of Abu Dhabi and Dubai merging, and more a matter of Abu Dhabi gobbling up Dubai.
