Won't comment on Padun, didnt consider him, but as for Lutsenko I still have a feeble hope that his efforts so far have been measured, and that he's slowly preparing to peak for the coming races in his program:

Upcoming participations
04.03 Strade Bianche
06.03 Tirreno-Adriatico
22.03 Classic Brugge-De Panne
24.03 E3 Saxo Classic
29.03 Dwars door Vlaanderen - A travers la Flandre
02.04 Ronde van Vlaanderen - Tour des Flandres
16.04 Amstel Gold Race
19.04 La Flèche Wallonne
23.04 Liège-Bastogne-Liège
01.07 Tour de France
Maybe, but as i can recall he has never had much success in classics. Maybe i'm wrong

I think I got 389 points today. Cannot complain, but it all looked so extremely good with Bettiol, Bagioli and Pidcock breaking loose, and Gregoire and Simmons among those looking strongest in the chasing group. Just hope that Bettiol hasn't been seriously injured in the crash!

In the end, aside from Pidcock and Grégoire (who I do have) nobody who was picked more than twice made the top-10 at Strade today, makes for a pretty stagnant week in this game which was as much as I could have hoped for.

Paris-Nice: Haig, Milan, Wright, Schachmann, Piccolo

Tirreno (so far): Pidcock, Roglic, Alaphilippe

...where is everyone? Normally two WT stage races at once means at least half your team is somewhere, not this year I guess. Mainly looking at Roglic' level, Haig's GC bid and, once again, damage limitation.

Looks like my team was made with one particular dirt road race in mind:

Van Der Poel
Alaphilippe
Pidcock
Bagioli
Simmons
(All top5 candidates)
Gregoire
Honoré
Onley
Sagan
Stybar
(All likely team captains, though only the first three with potential for a top15)
De Plus
Brenner
Hoelgaard
Schelling
(The first and the last could potentially do something)

And in the end all of the promise resulted in 1st,8th,12th and 14th. At least it should've been the rarer VDP winning, not the popular Briton. Well deserved victory, but can't say I didn't hope for a loot more...

C. Rodriguez - broken collarbone from his crash in Strade.. :( So no Spring points for him anymore

With Ayuso and Johannessen as my second and third most expensive rare picks also not performing yet, I think that´s it already for the season for me... I cheer you on from the back seats.

Well, I don't have Ayuso and Johannessen, but I do have Rodriguez and Hirschi...

here are the two articles (in German) I was referring to, by the way:

Update #9: rote laterne on top

This week was devoid of major stage races, but the 'sixth monument' ramped up the stakes of the early season and signalled the transition into being in full swing. With a very popular pick winning Strade Bianche but very few popular riders with high placings on the weekend races, overall scores were modest but there were some significant moves in the standings.

This Week's Top Scorers

RankTeamPoints this week
1rote_laterne505
2Poles & Co501
3Sneekes494
4repre493
5Armchair cyclist479

It was close at the top this week, but rote laterne takes the top spot with just over 500 points. This is of course due to the necessary-but-not-sufficient popular duo of Tom Pidcock (220 points, 76 teams) and the precocious Romain Gregoire (104 points, 60 teams), but also some good weeks from rarer picks such as Champoussin (52, 5), Halvorsen (50, 22) and Lutsenko (40, 23). Poles & Co gets pipped on the line but has a fine second place thanks to Attila Valter (86 points, 2 teams - good thing they don't deduct CQ points for bad tactics) and Caleb Ewan (48, 14) on top of the big 2. Sneekes sneaks onto the podium by a single point as one of only 4 teams to pick Gerben Thijssen (80 points).

This Week's High Movers

1manafana(+19)
2Sneekes(+17)
3rote_laterne(+15)
3PremierAndrew(+15)
3oliveira(+15)
3Armchair cyclist(+15)

Lots of good jumps this week, although now that we're into March we won't see the 50+ place swings of the opening week. manafana upends the classification, jumping 19 places. Sneekes and rote laterne repeat their podium places, although rote is part of a 4 way tie for third.

1bminchow137.3
2Jakob747122.3
3Blues in the bottle109.5
4rote_laterne95.5
5zaka_fan88.3

No movement in the top 3 here, with rote laterne the only mover at the top, using the 45 points for the weekly win to vault into the top 5 overall.

Top 10 Overall

7(-3)Blues in the bottle2372
8(+1)adamski1012303
9(+1)tobydawq2297
10(+2)DJW2231

None of the top 3 overall were in the top 50 this week, which meant that a) teams further down are at closer breathing distance and b) no one could make up enough on bminchow to threaten the overall lead. Jakob747 did gain over 60 points on the leader, and those two are still a step above the rest, but this week has some big points coming up so we will see how things shake out. DJW is the only entrant into the top 10, at the expense of firefly3323.

This week sees all hands on deck for the two simultaneous WT stage races that mark the historic for-sure-for-real opening of the cycling season, Paris-Nice and Tirenno-Adriatico - and thanks to the changes in Tirenno's schedule, we are getting GC points for both in the same week! Should be fun.

So it's already over for us non-Roglic teams apparently! :tearsofjoy:

Especially with Pidcock not up to it.

Another pick that I hummed and hawed over before kicking him out of my team, Damien Howson, looks to have the form to get some of his random high placings in minor stage races again.

As encouraging as today was for me and all other Roglic teams, it was right in his comfort zone and it’s far from impossible that he underwhelms when the going gets harder, not just here but also on some of the brutal stages the Giro has this year. And in any case, I’m not going to pass judgment on a popular rider following the Tirreno after I said this following last year’s edition:
This looks like a great week for my team. Martinez, Landa, Ciccone, Pinot and Hindley will combine for a lot of GC points assuming no freak accidents tomorrow, Jakobsen, Ewan and Kooij did their bit in the sprints and not picking Evenepoel looks the right call. If Dekker can win Drenthe tomorrow, that would be the icing on the cake and maybe even land me a weekly win.

I have no doubt that Roglic will have a very good level. Even if he doesn't win big he should get enough points to be a good pick - unless he crashes again which is something I really fear...

Especially if two of your most expensive picks are Piccolo and Lutsenko. The former DNF'd again, while the latter disappeared on a tough stage, again. Too many race days have elapsed for either of these to become good picks . My team's hopes of being competitive now rest with Ewan, Wright and Battistella :frowning:

I have a similar problem with Johannessen. He's now due to start his season (disregarding the false start in Algarve) at Catalunya. The early season races were quite crucial if he was gonna become a good pick. And judging from last year, I was convinced he was gonna have a good level from the start. Now a good portion of his race days will most likely be spent being somewhat anonymous in big races like the Tour de France instead of racking up easy GC points in lower level races.

Ackermann and Bouhanni still have time and opportunities to turn it around, but if I knew that their combined tally at this point of the season would be 10 points I would not have picked them.

Lol, Ackermann. I also have him.
Nearly all my expensive picks are wasted, either because I was clueless or because of bad luck.
