Kulyk and Zanotti both +1 in Taihu Lake. I never thought I would be interested in the exploits of Kulyk and Zanotti in Taihu Lake, but this could turn into an interesting finale of the "most top tens"-race.

Both Kulyk and Zanotti again in the top ten in stage 2.

22 - R. Kreder, M. Marcato
21 - R. Guldhammer, T. Benoot
20 - A. Kulyk
19 - B. Planckaert, T. Van Asbroeck, M. Zanotti
...

With 9 sprinter stages, still 7 remaining, Kulyk and Zanotti are favourites surely. However, Mareczko can't win 9 straight stages (can he?) so maybe Kulyk or Zanotti mess up and might win a stage. Very interesting race now...

Tour of Taihu organisers must be ecstatic that this is going on, no one would give a **** otherwise :p

Re: The Amazing Race to Most Top10 Without a win - 2015 Edit

Kulyk & Zanotti both barely missed the Top10 on Stage 3. Zanotti was 11th, Kulyk 12th. They still have plenty of time to grab the necessary placings though... 6 more stages + GC.

Zanotti "messed up" and won Stage 5 in Taihu Lake. Kulyk can still pull it off... Btw, I ask you to re-calculate... Based on procyclingstats.com I end having one less Top10 for Kulyk than you have calculated...

Yes, there is some uncertainty about whether Kulyk now has 20 or 21 top tens. Below are his 21 top tens from cqranking, which I have followed. On procyclingstats, he only has 20 top tens. The difference is in stage 10 of the Tour of Qinghai Lake. On that stage, cqranking has Kulyk in 3rd place, while procyclingstats have him in 100th place. The UCI website agrees with cqranking and has Kulyk in 3rd, but the organisers' website (tdql.cn) agrees with procyclingstats and have him in 100th. If anyone knows which is right, please let us know.

Yeah, surely appears to having been relegated as he is dead-last of the group in the results as listed by procyclingstats. Whether that has been later over-turned and he has been re-instated as 3rd - tougher to say.

Anyway, Kulyk may make this academical as he added another Top10 on stage 6 and still have 3 bullets in chamber. Two more Top Tens would be enuff no matter which results you believe in...

The UCI results show that Kulyk's teammate Kononenko was relegated, so it's well possible that Kulyk was initially relegated (as mentioned in the youtube video), but that they got the wrong guy, the decision was overturned afterwards and Kononenko was relegated instead. It seems impossible to say without confirmation from someone with more information.

Final ranking for this year. Zanotti would have won if he had not made the awful mistake of winning a stage in the last race, but our glorious winner is now: Andriy Kulyk

24/25 - A. Kulyk
22 - R. Kreder, M. Marcato
21 - R. Guldhammer, T. Benoot
19 - B. Planckaert, T. Van Asbroeck
18 - E. Grosu
17 - A. Tsatevich
16 - S. Kruijswijk, J. Roelandts, F. Mancebo
15 - J. Fuglsang, A. Demoitie, R. Torres, M. Van Staeyen, S. Ponzi
14 - M. Cort Nielsen, T. Machado, F. Vachon, T. Vaitkus
13 - N. Ruffoni, R. Barbier, J. Simon, R. Fernandez, J. Hivert, B. Shpilevsky
12 - D. Ratto, A. Zargari, S. Yates, D. Martin, S. Vanmarcke, M. Nieve, M. Canola
11 - D. Appollonio, D. Caruso, E. Sanz, T. Farrar, D. Smith, P. Serry, R. Gesink, M. Rubiano, T. Voeckler, T. Dupont, M. Mugerli, R. Selig, E. Pinto, D. Cunego, F. Pellizotti, T. Van der Sande, F. Silvestre, M. Verschoor, E. Siskevicius
10 - N. Haas, R. Janse van Rensburg, L. Bertazzo, A. Marque, J. Arredondo, N. Edet, Sy. Chavanel, A. Fonseca, S. Lagutin, G. Ciolek, K. Reza, E. Gasparotto, B. Vallee, T. Sprengers, P. Konrad, S. Rosetto, J. El Fares
9 - V. Agnoli, A. Porsev, A. Blythe, H. Alizadeh, V. Campenaerts, M. Pedersen, M. Valgren, A. Andersen, J. Brandao, H. Duyn, G. Izagirre, O. Doull, M. Kolar, A. Parrinello, D. Oss, S. Kuroeda, F. Gavazzi, A. Phelan
8 - S. Clarke, J. McCarthy, M. Scarponi, M. Elmiger, M. Frank, D. Teuns, A. Vichot, J. Mendes, R. Maikin, A. Capiot, A. Looij, E. Avila, M. Kudus, G. Visconti, A. Viola

An astounding fact is that Kulyk achieved his 24/25 Top10s with just 42 bullets - he participated in exactly 37 racedays at 2.HC, 2.1 or NC -level + 5 General Classifications.

OTOH, he scored exactly 2 Top10s outside China. So, it really seems that Chinese stage races are the way to go in this competition if you are a sprinter, but not too good of a sprinter.

in comparison, Marcato was started byt the team with 90 chances to score (he retired from few stage races in mid-competition so actual days are less) and Kreder started at 78 opportunities (incl. GCs)

Yep, feels like a bit of an undeserving winner after such a beautiful fight between Marcato and Kreder.

Anyway, thanks everybody for the help, especially quiqui. See you next year with the amazing race!
