All these wide boulevards and highways certainly don’t help the racing atmosphere. It’s not just this World’s but many others are held on big roads that are less interesting (even for a recreational cyclist) and do nothing to add to the race. It’s a bit weird since in a certain sense this is supposed to a pinnacle of pro cycling competition.
I guess another reason to appreciate the Classics.

There's not a lot that can be done about this in terms of race design in car-centric places like Australia and the US. Narrow or poorly maintained roads exist, but not near places that have the capacity to host big international races.

tbh this is probably appropriate for a race in the gong. It's all very low key so far, everyone's happy to let Italy control things.
