Solid argument. I've changed my mind now, they should have resigned him for 4 years.Yawn.

Lol, did LS give you some anti-Geraint Thomas-potion?I'm not that sure about. Thomas gets paid a LOT of money on Ineos, and given that you basically get one good GT and nothing else out of him in a year I really question the cost/benefit analysis on that one.
They have to send him to the Giro I imagine. If he wants the Tour and they extended him for 2M+ they're out of their minds.
Maybe it also helps that he has let himself go in most autumns. I used to think that meant that he didn't fully have what it took but his work/life balance is probably the healthiest of all top riders and could be the reason for his surprising longevity.
I'm surprises that I didn't see more posts like this before because I agree completely. Thomas basically only peaking for one objective a season, with a lot of down time and slow build of form, has surely contributed to his longevity.Thomas has had a quietly very, very strong career. I mean, it's known, but his longevity is seriously impressive. Part of that, I think, is because he's really not raced the spring classics in recent years.
With a little bit more luck he could have had 1-2 more GT wins.
He’s still the most likely Ineos rider to podium a grand tour next year.Says a lot about Ineos that Thomas got 2 more years. He'll be ... the wrong side of 39 in 2025.
+1I'm not that sure about. Thomas gets paid a LOT of money on Ineos, and given that you basically get one good GT and nothing else out of him in a year I really question the cost/benefit analysis on that one.

I mean that's just whichever guy they send to the Giro next year. He’s still the most likely Ineos rider to podium a grand tour next year.
Not really. I still think Thomas is their best GT rider as it stands. Carlos Rodriguez will need to make another step.I mean that's just whichever guy they send to the Giro next year.
Sounds harsh considering he had very bad luck in the Giro but the reality is Tao has now gone three straight years without any kind of a Grand Tour GC result.+1
Not offer Tao Geoghegan Hart a proper contract proposal in time, but keep old hag Geraint Thomas as British GT leader for 2 years is comical from Ineos!
With all respect for Thomas being 2nd at the 2023 Giro d'Italia.

At least he's shown the level a bit at this year's Giro though. 2020 was a weird year and with a lack of follow-up other than some lower top 10s in the Dauphiné for a couple of years afterward, his Giro had been starting to look a bit like Zaugg's Lombardia, where it was a complete outlier where they had their best ever legs by far in the most perfect circumstances imaginable and would never be able to replicate it. This year's Giro may have been tamely raced, but on the stages where there was some racing in the first half of the race Tao was legit among the strongest.Sounds harsh considering he had very bad luck in the Giro but the reality is Tao has now gone three straight years without any kind of a Grand Tour GC result.
Tao doesn't agree with your assessment based on his pretty frank statement that he wanted a change and has very close freinds at Trek he wants to race with too. I think he'll do well, but there's probably a precedent with Carapaz, Swift, Landa, Dunbar etc that at best you won't improve more by switching teams.+1

Outside of this season is it true that you only get one good GT and nothing out of Thomas for a year? 2021 he won a WT stage race and had a podium in 2 others, 2022 he won a WT stage race outside of his podium at the Tour.I'm not that sure about. Thomas gets paid a LOT of money on Ineos, and given that you basically get one good GT and nothing else out of him in a year I really question the cost/benefit analysis on that one.

He was very good on Yitti Hills as well (if i recall correctly that was the name of the climb on Saudi Tour), he exploded a bit on the flattish run-in to the finish.Looks like Svestad-Bardseng might find a home next year with Arkea Devo. Decent l'Avenir from him, but that was about all this season.

Peak is another one who deserves a contract in my eyes. He's honestly the second best Hungarian cyclist, so I have no idea why Polti-Kometa hasn't swooped him up.He was very good on Yitti Hills as well (if i recall correctly that was the name of the climb on Saudi Tour), he exploded a bit on the flattish run-in to the finish.
From what's left of Rally Cycling I think Schonberger should find a new home (either PCT linked with KTM or Conti in Austria), Banazsek should be a lock for his previous Polish team (the one which has all the Banazsek family), some americans will go to NCL teams... and probably that's it.
No idea on anything about the other two, but I think Nathan Smith is the brother of DSMs new rider, Abi Smith. Not much of a surprise here. Not the promotion of those particular riders, but that they're promoting riders. Their pool of potential signees isn't exactly huge.

Good for him, he's a leader at INEOS and Movistar would be a step back when it comes to professionalism of the team.Carlos Rodriguez signs a new four year deal with Ineos: https://www.ineosgrenadiers.com/article/carlos-rodriguez-re-signs-with-ineos-grenadiers-until-2027
