At the moment Welsford does not have a team. No surprise if Jayco makes a play because his price would have dropped.
The way INEOS has played with transfers the last couple of years, reaching terms then not sending a contract, it will be interesting to see if agents start to guide riders away from the team. Perhaps they already have.

With all due respect, I can't think of a worse recruitment than Ackermann. The guy hasn't had a good season since 2021, he has been regressing year after year and Jayco does not even ride piss-poor french and belgium races in which he could have a decent result against 4th Tier sprinters.

The only way I could think of it as a decent deal would be if it is for the minimum wage and Jayco is happy if he brings in 250 UCI points for peanuts.
Welsford would be up there

For how long? There are fairly many good riders available after next season, so I don think Matthews tied up for 2027 would be a good idea.
Unsure if for one or two years. Jayco must have money in the budget when you look at riders who are leaving , then you add Ewan who left at the end of 2024 and if you consider the riders coming in 2026. Jayco were always going to renew Bling when he is their biggest point scorer.

Okay. I think Ackermann and Matthews for maximum one year would be the best. There are a lot of riders that could or should be of interest for Jayco before the 2027 that would or could be better than those two. Groves are an obvious option. Kiwis like Strong and Fisher-Black are also good options. Or a talented Brit like Joseph Blackmore. Or if one are really ambitious; Magnus Sheffield.

it really depends on Alula (I don't know how long is their deal) and how much Gerry Ryan wants to keep splashing to fund the team

Jayco can do the funniest thing in a week or two

Welsford and Démare still on the market

I guess he could be useful if they have some other sprinter in mind and needs Ackermann for the lead out train or something.

On the surface it is a weird transfer, so wondering what can be the reason for this.

Does he blame Visma for the issues he had with his back for example? Or is Visma not going to stick to making Uijtdebroeks a GC captain next year in a GT?

Will be interesting to learn more about this, because it doesnt look good on Cian to be leaving another team before the end of his contract.

Edit: Ah from the responses given by Plugge and Uijtdebroeks it seems like it is the leadership role that Cian wants but cant be guaranteed at Visma. Seems like it is a good transfer for all parties involved then.

As a fan I still need to get used to these cycling transfers, but in other sports it is quite common, so i guess these type of transfers are fine.

Based on the Plugge/Cian statements in the press release, it seems he wants to be a leader in big races and isn't going to get it at Visma.

Jonas is Jonas, Yates won a GT this year so he deserves another leader role and Jorgenson will at some point want sole leadership. Wout will get to support and stage hunt at the Tour again after a hopefully injury-free off-season/spring. You'd think after the season he's had, Brennan would get some support to go sprinting at the Vuelta maybe next year. Add in Nordhagen's development and Piganzoli too, the team must be confident they don't need Cian.

Meanwhile, Movistar have about 10 exciting riders who could hunt GT stages, from Romo to Canal, Sanchez, Garcia Pierna, Adria, Milesi, Barrenetxea...

GC wise, Mas is the only proven name of course, but they have Castrillo (probably more a GT stage hunter but he's looked good in one-week races), plus the potential development of Romeo, Novak and Pescador. Rubio is so bad at TT that he's a lower top-10 guy mostly and is out of contract after 2026 anyway. Where Cian needs to be careful is that, for now, I could see him getting leadership at plenty stage races and probably the Giro with Rubio, assuming Mas recovers and goes back to his usual TdF/Vuelta double. But the likes of Pescador and Novak could quickly push him down the pecking order if they pan out and Cian doesn't hit the ground running. Could we see him break a third long-term contract in a row if that happens?

I find him a strange rider, he's left two teams early but he comes across in every interview as a lovely guy. Are the rumours behind the scenes false or is he an Oscar-level actor when there is a nearby microphone/camera?

I agree with you to some extend. But Pescador and Novak are longshots and definitely not the type of talents that are guaranteed to become GT leaders.

For Cian Movistar will be a squad where he can be (co)-captain in every race for now. Whether that will remain like this in the future depends largely on how Cian performs in this role.
