Nice job Foxxy. Who was it last year that put all the picks in a spreadsheet to see what was most popular?

Picking Bennati for the stage was a mistake. Thomas or Phinney would've totally been a safer bet.

Look on the bright side. Courtesy of my hapless attempts to use a spreadsheet to swap riders around, I've ended up with Goss as my pick to win the final TT!!!!

He finished 65th. Omg. Anyway it´s just the first day.

Goss for the final ITT was bright. ;)

GC frequencies

This shows how many times each rider has been picked for the GC. With "44" signifying everyone has put him in his/her GC top 20 and "1" signifying only 1 person has put him in his top 20.

That was a tedious job. Saw some more spelling differences in the names as well. My favorite was "Pozzovivio".

Enjoy the game people. And big thanks to Foxy, what a hero.

With Spalco's picks, it says "De Gent" instead of "De Gendt".

Fixed.

I don't really get the division stuff. Should I mix up the stats or keep them separated?

Think about the soccer world cup. They make 8 divisions á 4 teams. Two qualify. When the world cup was still 24 teams it was 6 divisions á 4 teams. Two per division qualified directly + the four best 3rd place finishers of all 6 divisions. This basic concept is applied here. In north america (NFL) they call those teams "wild card qualifiers", as i do.

So, from each division (europe & world) 12 qualify direct, plus the 6 best of the rest from both divisions who didn´t qualify directly. The "wild cards" are necessary, so that a possible weak division don´t get "easy" qualifiers for the next round.

A 44-Single-Table would be pretty boring, same as a 32-World Cup-Table would be. :)

Stage pick cross tabs

It's easy. Yellow means few picks for a rider on a stage (1-3), brown means more picks (4-6), red means a lot of picks (7+). Bold and large font means most picks for the stage.

Example: for prologue, 20 people picked Phinney (red, bold and big font). 17 picked Thomas (red). A couple picked Kwiatkowski and Benatti and 3 picked Rasmussen (yellow).

Enjoy fellas.

Great work again, as always. I love it, as Ferminal and the other players do.

"Pozzovivio" just sounds great. Like a high class south italian spicy pizza. Anyway, i´ll look again trou the Top-20´s. Had a long night working yesterday, seems i overlooked some errors on tiredness.

Thanks for your compliment. I´ll root for you, since i need you until the final for the great spread sheets. :D

Two other people think Brutt will win stage 16? That's crazy.

Also, why did I pick Bennati?

Because you want to climb up all the way trou the standings? ;)

Thanks boomcie!

-Most also pick Cav for the first sprint, weird how we all think at the same time that he can reverse the trend. Although maybe it's simply because we prefer that to a 250km stage with an annoying climb near the end.

-Gasparotto and Pozzato are frequent misspellings!

-Goss is preferred to Farrar as the next best sprinter or if it's a bit harder. Not many picks for Bos.

-Less than 50% pick Basso to payback Stelvio? Shall we burn you non-believers now or wait?

I picked Cav early, b/c i think he´ll leave.

The misspellings i corrected, but i still wait for some pick corrections (like Hesjedal picked twice in the Top-20) before i tell Boomcie to edit.

I just hadn´t enough space for Bos, also i preffered Guardini (who has even less picks). Did i miss something with him?

Even wanted to pick Pozzovivo on the Stelvio. But i played it safe. No guts:eek:

Basso i don´t trust, the same with Scarponi, but also fear Pozzovivo to give in at some point. So i had to go back to Basso. Because i also didn´t have the guts to pick Rujano first.

To be more precise: I don´t believe Basso, but run out on options to pick another overall winner, so i made the compromise to not pick him as stage winner.

Half a point for today. Maybe another half since I picked Tyler for tomorrow's stage.

That might give you a good position since half of the guys picked Cav.

Edit. Fooled myself with the new rules; you mean you expect Cav to win and pick up the 2nd/3rd finish tomorrow.

Bloody over-rated hack Thomas is!

GC common picks is interesting, huge gap between the top 13 and the rest. More or less means that the next 7 are the points of difference, and of course the order people have them in :D

Not sure why I picked Frank over Pinotti to be in the top20 though, guess who did these picks in a rush? :D

Anyone could tell me the stat of stage 18?Very interested to see which riders are picked for the late flat stage.thanks:D

Bennati and Modolo stick out with 7 and 6 picks respectively; Feillu, Guardini and Renshaw have 3 and then there are many different riders with 1 or 2 votes.

I liked the fact that I was the only one who picked Kiserlovski for a top20 GC - until I found out that my computer absence the last five days leading up to the giro meant me missing out on him not lining up anyways.... :-(

I have written you a PM, that you can, as an exception because you send the picks very early, change the pick for Kiserlovski. Please send it today...

Yeah, that´s the fun part of the game, rooting for riders making the top 20 of whom we never really cared. My guys this year are Bakelants (only 7 times picked ) and De Greef (only 3 times picked) :)

al_pacino said:
To me the most surprising stat is how few riders have been selected by everyone for the top 20.

That´s true. The competition has gotten really tight. Last year with 11 players less, we had 60 different CG-Guys compared to the 61 this year.

Glad I played Cav today.

Traditionally he doesn't do well in the first stage of a GT, but this stage was super-flat and the sprinting competition is so weak here that I couldn't see him lose it.

I have to ask. Would it be too arrogant to get every stage right? I mean, I can ask Foxxy if he can edit in my predictions so there will be a wrong stage winner prediction now and then.

No need to change here, tomorrow is Cav-Day again, giving me sole possesion of the lead in europe. ;)

But after Cav there is good competition (Guardini, Modolo, Bos, Goss, Viviani, Chicci, Ferrari, etc.). Actually i had no space to put Bos anywhere. Which might be good now, because i don´t know how serious he got injured today...

mis-read the rules and have to drop Cav from a couple of stages.

Main thing about today was Goss's perfomance, he gives me confidence he will come to the party for his two predicted stage wins!

Worried about Ventoso though, anyone know where he came? He needs to be ready for his two stage wins as well.

I'm ok with the half point today, as I assume Cav will take most of the other early sprint stages as well, and I could only put him first three times. Whoever took him for this stage will probably be wrong another time if he's in as good a form as it seems.
