Surely he needed to rest after bridging to Ciccone and del toro. Immediately attacking set him up for failure.
Perhaps. But if he goes, Ciconne was obligated to give chase. So in a way, Del Toro should have at least been able to stay on Ciconne's wheel. Being as he couldn't/didn't tells me he wasn't strong enough for a win anyway.

Maxime van gils has suffered a fractured pelvis, Jan Christen needs suspending. It's not even the end of February and this guy is the most hated rider in cycling and his reputation is down the toilet.

Feel sorry for Van Gils. But ofc Christen should not get a suspension. That would be way out of proportion.

Standard racing incident, a bit too aggressive, DQ is fine, suspension would swing too far in the way of policing the outcome.
I'm not sure, he starts his sprint from one side of the road and cuts right across the other side, full well knowing Van Gils was trying to pass.
As someone who races I thought it was out of order, and given its only Feb, this guy had built up a pretty bad reputation.

As someone who also races I thought he just followed Piddock. Maybe a bit too aggressive as @TimCahill said. But not more than that. DQ fine. And than let's get over it. Just because people don't like Christen or UAE they don't need to life up to higher standards.

Would you than also give Van Gils a suspension for this:

I'll try my utter best to remain unbiased:

The crash Van Gils invoked in the Tour a couple of years ago is more of an accident than what Christen did yesterday. Maxim's was a split second moment, trying to create space in order not to crash himself. Yesterday, Jan kept swerving to the other side of the road for a longer time, when he already looked once or twice behind him and could've/should've seen that his opponent was at bracket height with his front wheel.

Btw, Christen finally gave his apologies. Quite late though. Unfortunately I also don't feel really positive about his attitude up until now.

Apologies on social mediae, also known as the most meaningless gesture in the damned world
