Well done Cadel. A great effort after the disappointment of the TdF . What a riposte to the criticism that Cadel always comes second and never attacks. I'll be in Geelong for 2010. Agree the course could do with some more climbing. Mount Baw Baw (6km at 11.3%)?

Woohoo!

That was one hell of a well-timed, well-executed attack.

Nice to see an insanely talented rider get both tactics and luck on his side...I was still fully expecting him to flat, or lose it round that tight bend on the descent, or drop a chain...

Great work by the whole Aussie team as well by the sounds of it, even if that part of the race wasn't shown on TV here because Mark Webber was crashing out of a GP as usual (seems like his luck is back to normal).

Gotta feel a tad sorry for Cancellara, but, hey, world TT champion and fifth in the road race isn't too bad a return :)

If they're looking for a hill to add to the Worlds course, I'd suggest a couple of laps of the Glenmore hill (13% average for nearly 1km, peaks at around 16%). Nice little detour on the way from Melbourne to Geelong. ;)

From an American to my Aussie homies. Congrats on a great worlds. Your boys rode fast and bravely. Australia is a great sporting country and you have always hit above your weight class. Congrats again.

Congrats to Cadel and all those residing in the former penal colony down under. A great cycling nation finally has a big championship to savor.

Enjoy!

Ha.....usually this sort of comment comes from some some Brit carrying a chip on their shoulder since their parents missed the boat. Australia a former penal colony????? That's just to amuse American tourists.

Back to gloating over Cadel. As they say in Oz..."Go you good thing!".
Even though all evidence suggests he does really attack......What a great poker player. Imagine the call going out over the Spanish and Italian race radios....."Cadel has attacked?........Nah!.....it must be a hoax......keep riding tempo"

Watching Cadel's victory celebration I was reminded of Armstrong's when he won the worlds. Not because they bore any resemblance to one another. But because they were absolute polar opposites.

Neither necessarily good. Neither necessarily bad. Just that I think each of those salutes say a lot about the man

Congratulations to Cadel. Australia deserves a world road race champion. And as long as England keep the Ashes, Oz can take any other championship they like-except rugby... and darts.:D

Some will...

... but others lack the requisite sense of humour - those not from good solid convict stock:)

Congrats to GB on a good performance, Cav & the boys did everything right this time - or at least made one fewer mistakes than all the other teams:)
