That has been the opinion of some people. I don't think so. When you are racing in Plateau de Belle and you are thinking about the Tour de Spain, the problem is mental IMHO.

I still worry if he can ride a three week stage race for GC, however, I can see him winning a GT stage. He should be fine for one week races and please do more one day races.

I agree with you.

His best friend and the media were talking about the back pain again in the 3 week races that he has done. I am not sure about that. In one of his latest podcasts he talked about his mental state of racing and how that is affecting him. INEOS coaches were the ones that brought that up and He said that they were going to work on that. So it could be a little bit of both. We'll see. For sure winning again will boost his confidence level which was low at the end of last year.

It depends what kind of break to the collarbone. Groenewegen broke his collarbone last year and was back in less than 3 weeks.

I was saving the replay of this to enjoy Egan's first day of racing on European soil this year and was devastated to see the crash - hopefully his recovery is quick and simple

Feel bad for Bernal, he was having such a good start to the season and I was really excited for him. Hopefully his collarbone won't hinder him that much and he can get back to racing soon.

Going to Colombia now to altitude training. Team and Bernal feel very good about his 7th place after the collarbone break. only regret is the stage that was shortened. It left them without one reference point.

Well, on that last point, it left a lot of riders without the extra reference point. I am not sure if we can just project the results from the Barcelona circuit into the performance of the previous stage. It is a different kind of effort. But what do I know, a lot of people in this forum feel like they already know the results of the Giro.

I have no idea. But he looked so good at the beginning of the year. And even for a rider just returning from a broken collarbone. I think his only issue was his recovery. His power has been there since last year, but he is not recovering very well. And at that moment he breaks mentally as well. So we don't know. Hopefully he recovers well and gains confidence for the future.
