Actually it does matter what pace you do for 200km plus. Your body will store enough energy for an extremely solid 90 minutes to 2 hours...after that you need to metabolise fat and eat. You can't take in too much from eating so mostly you slow down so you get what you can.

For an example a guy like Chris McCormack will race an olympic distance tri...think 2 hr timetrial between 180 and 190bpm, but willhold a little over 150 for an ironman...

In your case floating on air for the first 130km...If your heartrates are like Chris's maybe you do the equivalent of sitting on 160...will feel super easy, but then you died. However if you are entering races over 200km I suspect you know this.

Don't worry about me. I'm not trying to win the Tour. My point is he's not going to finish because it doesn't matter if your me or Armstrong if you haven't done the training for a Flanders length race you won't finish. You just won't finish. End of story.

Flanders is so f&rking brutal it's not funny. You don't get lucky at Flanders. I know.

Out of respect and fear for Armstrong, I believe his team will control the front and the peloton will soft-pedal for his benefit so he can at the very least get on the podium.

Oops!!! That was his magical comeback 2nd. place at the Tour last year.

Sorry, wrong race. :D:D:D

He looks funny - a big mans chest with tiny legs.

Whatever result tomorrow will be spun as a great team effort by RS. But then again, he`s not doing it for us.

Does anyone recall the many comebacks of lightweight boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard?

Near the end, people were begging him to stop because he cr@pped all over his legacy.

Photos like that make me think of sugar ray and the parallels to his Lance-ness.

At the Saxobank press conference today someone asked Cancellera

"Fabian, does Lance have a chance on Sunday?"

"No."

And of course, if you asked Lance if Cancellera would ever win the TdF,

the answer would be the same....."No".

Thank-you. Doesn't matter what speed you ride 200km+ it still kills you and if you don't have the fitness you can't finish. Period. Me same last year rode a 210km race in Italy and whilst feeling like I was riding on air for the first 130km the last half killed me. There was little chance of holding onto anyone's wheel. I was hanging on for dear life. From memory I finished 210km in 10.5 hours! Mind you there were a lot of hills. I was in the form of my life and there is no way Armstrong will hang last that distance in the condition he's in. You can't.... there are timelimits at Flanders.

The RVV is what - 260km and 10,000ft of climbing?
The TdF is what - 3400km and 100,000ft of climbing?

The RVV is a bit more daunting to you, The Hog, than it is to Lance.
Lance has done hundreds and hundreds of rides over 200km in distance.
Many of those days included stupid amounts of climbing.
Lance has muscle memory and mental memory that are not normal lol.

That said, Lance will finish nowhere near the winner on Sunday,
the classic specialist or whoever.

But I do not expect Lance to lose any time to the other TdF overall
dangermen who will be in the race either:)

Well you couldn't be more right, In fact I will go out on a limp and predict that every single Tour de France GC contender in the Tour of Flanders will finish at the exact same time. Yep, I'm very confident of that.

For the haters

Andy Schleck or Frank Schleck(if undoped) would finish behind Lance in this years Flanders race.

I doubt if those 2 are riding Flanders or Cunego but if they do I would like to compare How they compare to Lance.

...because he and Bruyneel are joined at the hip?;) They can't argue that it is simply the alphabetical order of the team's riders. I recall his Highness pouting when Contador was given the #1 for the Tour.

It's is crucial for Armstrong to wear the number 11 or 111, tomorrow as stripes are slimming.

As to why he rides Flanders, as opposed the Fleche or LBL, is beyond me.
Unless it's to do with fulfilling people's expectations..........

Don't think the team nubering thing means so much outwith the Tours. But maybe in this case it's closer to finishing positions? OK I will get my coat...

Usually rider numbers get done in alphabetical order, hence why Jose Azevedo wore no.1 at the 2006 Tour (so for me, where my surname starts with a 'W', I would be one of the last riders on a team's start list). Obviously they haven't done it on this occasion (what with Vaitkus ahead of Irizar).
