Armstrong rode well today. He was at the front of his group a few times, worked hard, and finished well in a brutal race. And if you use that as a yardstick to measure his progress against where he was last year, you can see how his admirers have every right and reason to start thinking that he's going to be a lot more powerful at this year's Tour than he was last year.

I'd still say that finishing well at Flanders isn't nearly as good a result at winning Paris-Nice, and that since Contador is improving too, I still would be astonished--and suspicious--if Lance turned into a serious contender for the Tour overall. But you can't take today's result away from him.

I agree. I like to watch Lance race, but i am not a big fan of him that go ape**** when he lose, or moves up at the peleton. And i dont come to this forum to talk highly about him, but i am 80% sure that he will manage the podium!

Quality ride by Armstrong. Different goals for different riders.

I think riders should be riding all the races but for Armstrongs goals; excellent ride. I prefered merckx , Coppi, Rik Van Looy,Kelly, Giamondi. But hey go Lance, go contador.

I do not see what missing MSR or having a medium showing at Crit. I has to do with Lances 10 tour.

I guess the doubters/haters are better at reading tea leaves then me, more power to y'all.

The Versus race coverage is two hours from now. I'll get the real dirt on his progress from those journalists. Actually I was skeptical that he'd finish and hopefully the coverage will show other racer's efforts. It doesn't sound like he put his nose out front much, though.

He did finish in the lead group of the second stage of the criterium, which wasn't televised, and did a reasonably good TT considering it was so short. (Short TT's are harder for old people). So I wouldn't overegg how bad he was. On the long climb he seemed to be deliberately hanging at the back even before they had reached the bottom so that it was clear he wasn't attempting to race. About half way up he was seen sitting up and chatting.

He should win the minor stage race he is entering next week and should be considered the favorite for Amstel Gold. I'm a little surprised at how quickly he gained form, but now that he has it, I don't think it unrealistic to expect that
he wins or is in contention for every race he enters prior to the Tour .

43 posts in one day - are you trying to set a new personal record BPC?

Some of us were reporting events on the race as we saw it happen. I suspect quite a few people have high posts counts today. :)

Going by your logic - you must be a 'hater' then? As you posted this yesterday.
I said he "will ride hard for Grivko at some point, maybe early, maybe mid-race, and then will drop out once he has burned himself up."

I was wrong. He rode hard the whole race, perhaps initially for Grivko, but in the end for himself. But I did not hope for him to not do well, as the haters obviously did.

I bet his odds for winning the Tour went up today.

Trying to use this performance to put the pressure on him, huh? The only race that seems to count for him is in July, so I don't think he cares what people say about him at these smaller events. The moral of the story is not to listen to malicious rumours if he isn't showing that well. He's got his own plan and that's all that matters.

Not how it works anymore. He's got the form and should be winning and/or contending from here on out. No more excuses.

It does make you wonder how well he might have done if he didn't have the gastro problem a couple of weeks ago. It might have been a three man group at the end today.

Nope. Just calling it like I see it. In a week he's made a dramatic leap in his form. Says here that that means he should be one one of the top riders in every event he enters. Given that, it is not unreasonable to expect him to win a fair number of the races he enters.

The first one is the small stage race he's entered next week. I'd be shocked if he doesn't win.

given his form, he would have probably won too. Next week he should notch his first win for 2010.

Grivko rides for Astana!

But LA rode well - I expected the race to break up more and for him to finish in a group further back, it was a solid performance.

Actually, BPC most of your 'reporting' centered around the RadioShack team.

Can't decide which is MORE impressive -

A 15 year old Lance, youngest guy in the race, beating older racers.
Or a 38 year old Lance, oldest guy in the race, beating younger racers...

260km with cobbles and climbs - 40km/hr average speed. Not too shabby.
Even for a cyclo-sportive.

Did anyone else notice that Lance was a bit melancholy when the Sporza
guy asked if "it was his last Rhonde?"?

Lance did not want to say "yes". Does not want to stop. He LOVES to race!

Lance has one goal. I don't think he cares about anything but LeTour.

From this point on I think its about shadowing his rivals and working his numbers with his trainer.

You know the deal with Armstrong, and so do his competitors.

To me it is scary. Lance is one psycho dude. I do not want to see his bad side.

I think he might be smoking a bit too much of his "Glaucoma" medicine.

He has 30 banned usernames and will not be happy until he hits 100. Gotta hand it to him, the guy is driven.

Fedrigo and LL Sanchez are down to ride the small stage race, but no reason why they should be the only ones allowed to beat up 2nd division teams.

Alright alright. I try to understand this.

Less then a month ago, and with limited races under his belt, this 40-year old was so fat he had problem sitting around that table at a coffeshop with that belly. Less then a week ago he was the laughing stock at Criterium International and now flying with the youngsters on cobbles and the hills in one of the spring classics?

But, if you can go from the hospital bed as a promising, although not complete, rider in oneday-races to a legend in the grand Tours, anything is possible.
