Ah, the bemused lurker standing at a distance watching the circus and condescendingly wondering out loud why people don't have better things to do, as if no one here works or rides.

Come up with something new, dude. You sound as lame as all the other tired and pathetic fanboys.

Or better yet, get on a bike and go ride. A double century would do you a world of good right about now.

The reason I'm a lurker is I'd rather be out riding my bike or this time of year, sking. Reading and typing on interwebz forums is a strictly part-part time form of entertainment.

No double centuries yet :) (probably never as a matter of fact unless you're talking kilometers rather than miles) But I did manage an couple good 50-60 mile road rides in this week in between work a few days of backcountry sking and a little running. (cycling season is a bit short at 9000', gotta put in a couple hours of round trip driving to ride this time of year, but I try :)) The snows melting in the lowlands though and the new MTB is ready for it's shakedown mileage.

Fanboys, haters, different sides of the same coin. Both talk a lot of $hit about a person they have never met like they know everything there is to know about him. Really don't get the fascination but to each their own. As I have said several times, carry on. Cluck cluck.

As far as being a joke or an insult, search this forum for the reference.

“Decent argument” in this thread is defined as any post that bashes LA, other posters, or ignites a typical feeding frenzy amongst the handbag bunch, resulting in lost portions of dorsal fins and possibly losing one of those razor sharp teeth..

“Continuity of the thread” - you have got to be kidding me. The inference that this thread has any continuity is just another sad reflection on the folks around here that have their blinders strapped on every morning before they sit down at the computer.

I have been lurking here since the forum opened, only “joined” last August, and I continue to amazed and appalled at the lack of respect for what is essentially an unmoderated forum.

Most posts here are by a very small group. My estimate is that over 97.46 percent of the posts are made by less than 30 folks, and because they do not respect the rules of an unmoderated forum, this forum has evolved (or devolved) into a classic example of groupthink.

Many posters here ignore the forum rules regarding personal attacks, any mention of doping only in the Clinic, etc, etc. Because the forum is unmoderated, there are effectively no rules, and what becomes of a group that realizes that there are no penalties for breaking rules?

Over the last few weeks I have seen some members essentially (and literally) saying “Thanks, I’ll be getting my coat now.” This is a direct result of the status quo freaking out over anyone who does not buy into the group mentality.

This forum will continue to have very low participation of individual posters unless posters respect the forum rules. In one of my previous posts, I posted a link to something I found on the web, a Twitter post that essentially said this forum is ten old ladies arguing over who hates LA more.

If that’s your idea of fun, well you’ve got it. If you want to see this forum grow through the input of many other people, clean up your act.

Well with all that said I do believe I’ll be getting my coat now

If you post more and get involved you become part of the community - this forum is community moderated which is the most efficient way for social sites to operate. If you think the CN forums are bad, you should have a look at some of the more popular forums (sports, politics, gaming etc) around the world :p CN is a mellow bunch of middle aged men compared to what I'm used to. Forums with an authoritarian moderation style always feel more sterile, discussion progresses in a more linear fashion, overmoderation is far worse than undermoderation.

People shouldn't be afraid of some random CN forum vet having a go at them (who cares?). If people can make solid posts then no one is going to call you out anyway.

I think the forum has a great spirit - get involved in the race day threads it's all quite exciting if you ask me. Don't take this rubbish during the week too seriously. Don't read it and don't complain about it (if you're not involved in the discussion it's not exactly relevant too you).

Kurt and IK have been posting for many pages, and they may oppose this "mob" but you will find very few people who have a problem with their comments/contributions and I don't think I've ever seen them complain about their "treatment". Their posts are a "decent argument". What I mean is - don't get upset if someone disagrees with your preconceived ideas (or at least don't post about it), rather form an argument which sensibly opposes them.

Excellent post. Nice summary of this place.
All this forum needs is a countdown and then a banning for any for anyone who doesn't hate LA enough and it can be the cycling clone of Champ Car fanatics. Mega pharking awesomeness

That might work if the no personal abuse rule was used - or at least the free for all was 2 way, but it's not.

Anyway, back do discussing LA's loose bowels or lack thereof, cos that's a riveting discussion :need a puke smilie:

I don't like lance but the lance bashing becomes a bit old after a while and posters who like him get shot down straight away.

Met him, raced against him. Had former teammates race with him on several teams. The reports from generally positive and talented people are not good; paticularly about his personal ambitions and the damage he's willing to do and to whom. Fans or critics can see attributes differently but there have been few sportsmen so single minded.

How do you get onto this crap?

How did I find the graph? I am sorry Ausman, I cannot reveal my sources.

(Ok, between you & me I put in 'Livestrong site traffic' in to my google search. I ignored the "traffic calorie" result in favor of the second result 'site info from Alexa'. You might think I am making this sound easy - but there is a certain amount of hand eye co-ordination in using the mouse.
Don't tell anyone about this 'Google search' thing, ok. Because then it might actually force people to question their opinions that they get from the mass media.)

So, by your logic - why have you not been banned?

Your 'dismay' only appears to extend to the posters who "hate Lance" or have anything negative to say about him.
Since you appear to choose one side over the over, I am inclined to think it is not the debating style that upsets you but that it has more to do with the end recipient of any negative comments.

If it appalls you so much then stay away from the threads that mention LA or better still try to debate with those that do not share your opinion.

To all of the "group think kills the forum" people: Are you all really that weak minded? Does reading counter opinions or even...(gasp)...an insult really affectyou that much? Recently there has been a rash of "I am taking my ball and going home" posting going on here. Are you all so very fragile? This is an interwebs forums made up of tubes that carry words. WORDS. It's not like we can chase you down and ruin your chance for a race win. It's not like our words are a public media campaign filled with lies and distortions meant to call into question your integrity. It isn't like we have Twitter accounts with millions of followers that we use to sully your personal reputation with snarky little 12 year old banter. No, the problem here is that you cannot counter any of the information with substantive argument or fact, so you pout like little children and and cry about the big bully who hwort wour wittle fweelings. I have a suggestion for you all: Grow a set.

Oh, and 9000ft, I ride at least 5 times per week. In fact, most of the regular posters ride a lot. It is the ignorant fanboy crowd...you know , the ones with the Trek comfort bikes and who don't know anything about the sport before 1999 or later that I would give the "get out and ride speech" to. Me, I have been riding since 1992.

And Cal Joe, you sound like a fat guy from Ohio we all are familiar with. Here, take some of this cheese for your whine. I'll bet the extra calories aren't a big deal for you.

Say what? Crazy Jack is back from his heavy schedule of racing cat 3 charity rides??

I'd like to add that most insults are aimed at third persons; I've been out of this forum for months, but in my experience it treats other members reasonably well. It would humbly advise everyone not to identify with any single rider so much that an insult to that rider becomes an insult to oneself.

Morning HATERS..... Good to see that some sensable posting has been happening here finaly. This thread is usually so full of HATE.

You guys all must all have really tiny ball to HATE on a man who has done so much for cycling, and lets not forget what he has done for cancer. What would cancer be like without him....It would probably kill people or something.

All you suckers would never ride bikes cos you spend all your time HATTING in internet forums and turning them into wastes of time where no one like me can discuss LANCE (TM) who as we all know invented cycling in 1992 in some hick town called Osmond or Oslo or something.

Im taking my uniball and going home. I think Plankton has made some tea.

This works both ways though. You should not be scared of people disagreeing with you by calling them trolls. There is no need to lose your temper just because you disagree with someone. You should accept counter views without throwing your toys out of the pram. It's because of people like you that I don't post here.

Well by the time I get to 3,500 thousand posts of utter drivel I'll find it.

Well I have found posting "utter drivel" 3500 times a lot of fun! I imagine you must be in a bad mood after having to clean up after him when he has the runs.
