Both Schlecks are also racing the Tour de Suisse. Since the Giro was so tough, I'd be surprised to see anyone that did anything there go to the Dauphine after just six days off, so TdF contenders might also end up at TdS. It should be interesting.

Armstrong to switzerland is nothing news. I'll be interested to see both suisse and Dauphine start lists...should check cycling startlists. Wouldn't surprise me if many favourites avoid Contador at the Dauphine, hard to call yourself a contender if he easily matches everything you do there.

It is looking like this is the case and Suisse will have the better field. People may say people are dodging Contador but it could result in a great race with a great field.

A disappointment for the organizers of the race is that for the first time in years it will not be carried by Swiss television stations TSR and RSI. The race dates conflict with the football World Cup, which gets television precedence. The Tour de Suisse will have to be content with an hour of daily highlights from the race, which starts 12 June in Lugano and ends 20 June in Liestal, near the German border.

So, it's only live on British Eurosport and, I presume SportItalia 24.
What about Sporza?

Oh and I also presume that they have a better field because it's a far easier race than the Dauphine.
Very weak parcours for the Cancellara Classic.

According to some emerging bike "engineers" on another thread this would logically make for a further advantage with his Cervelo Motorolo. gawd

Armstrong a solid fifth in short time trial

Insert someone like Taylor Phinney and I'd agree. Why does CN feel the need to laud a "Seven-time Tour de France winner" for his "solid" fifth place in the Tour of Luxembourg's prologue?

I suspect it's because his fifth place was a higher placing than any legitimate competition who is riding the event, and is a big improvement from getting smoked at the Gila.

Is this the secret of Armstrong's "gut" in photos?

In the torso area, shoved under the suit, are muscular-looking briquettes of something, later to be identified as L'eggs pantyhose containers stuffed with ice. There is only one word that would excuse someone for asking the world's most famous cyclist to don an outfit that makes him look like he's on his way to Mardi Gras. That word is science.

Good to see so much discussion about the greatest of all time. It's about that time of year when the true fans of cycling come out to support a true champ.

I have trouble following your logic. True fans are not those who are here year round?

No Dammit, to true fans only two races count, the Tour de France and the Tour of Cali, the rest is just jibber jabber and fake reaces for people who are not as good as the great Lance.

Anyway, I can't wait until he retires again, and although I do not like the portrayal of his persona (I don't know if he truly is this way, but the way he seems to be is someone I would dislike very much) this is not the main reason. It is mainly to stop all the talk about him from both the haters as well as the fanboys. Yes he is a good rider who probably took PEDs, like almost everybody else, but really does everything concerned with cycling come done to a debate about Armstrong? In many media coverage at any race, there is often at least one segment during the day concerned with the great LA (mainly in the media in the Netherlands and at Eurosport, which is one of the reasons I don't watch at these two channels? How can one be expected to be neutral if the race is on the same broadcaster as a programme called Planet Armstrong, this is mainly looking at you Eurosport)

Still beating the same drum:

“Last year at the Tour, I felt absolutely no pressure,” Armstrong said at the Tour de Luxembourg, his first race since crashing last month at the Tour of California. The Texan is using the five-day event as part of his Tour preparations, and finished the opening-day, 2.7-kilometer, or 1.7-mile, prologue in fifth place, with the same time of 3 minutes and 51 seconds as the fourth-placed Jimmy Casper.

Astana “was not my team,” he said. “I didn’t take a salary. I was there just riding, just to do everything with my foundation,” he said, referring to his organization that raises money for cancer research, Livestrong.

The Luxembourg event is also Armstrong’s first race since his former U.S. Postal teammate, Floyd Landis, admitted to doping throughout his career and alleged that Armstrong had been involved too. Armstrong denied any wrongdoing.

“I wouldn’t say it’s quiet,” Armstrong said to reporters when asked about Landis’s allegations. “But nobody needs to feel sorry for me. I’m fine.”

We are continuing to talk about it. That's why the UCI continues to sell this, the broadcasters promote it and the advertiser's keep paying. If he goes away who will be the next hot topic? Levi? He sells a mean bracelet.

Wow, maybe it is my under-caffeinated state, but the combination of this post and user name really made me laugh.

You've got to hand it to the guy : he does generate opinion.

Even on this site, which is mostly populated by year round, (slightly obsessional!) cycling fans, has the largest thread devoted to someone who hasn't won a meaningful race in 5 years and who many have a particular distaste of.

And yes I know I've just added to it. You can't win!
