Dude!! are you serious?!! it is not like he has not done this sort of thing before!! It is not like he is the only one to try and put a bit testosterone into the show!!! The guy is a pr!ck - a hard pr!ck, but still a pr!ck- deal with it! ...even his friends don't describe him as warm and fuzzy!

LOL, that's patently obvious. I'm well aware of the Simeoni precedent, etc. It's just that things are too "cute" here by half. It's TOO obvious. It's a sucker play.

Remember the hammer and nail metaphor Armstrong used today. Well, the other one if that if one has a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

I'm looking at the photo in itself. Take a good look at the edges of the riders' figures vs. the background. I don't believe it's genuine. I may want to believe it is, but I don't think it is genuine.

oldman & parrot: obviously, shot of lance bullying alberto was taken before armstrong flatted. regardless: photoshop for sure. check out the bikes...i.e: alberto's rear wheel (deep dish) for starters. armstrong's "photo" was taken before he flatted (front wheel). lance's head looks pasted in to me - i could be wrong about that, but not about contador's rear wheel.

I think it's a bit too early to write Armstrong's obituary. I remember in the Giro when everyone knew that Basso was out of it after the Strade stage. Grand tours are funny things. Stages were nothing is suppose to happen (yesterday or tomorrow) are huge. Stages that are supposed to be something special aren't.

I certainly don't think you are unreasonable in your thoughts (and I share many of them). I just am leery about write him off at this stage.

It's too early to write anyone off that hasn't broken a major body part. In LA's case his ego counts as a major tool of his arsenal and I doubt it's broken. Conta and Andy need to keep cool until they're on their favorite terrain. Don't get caught on the wrong side of the gaps to Sky, Evans, Basso, Menchov and, yes Kloden. Not Armstrong.

Also Riis really ruing the loss of Frank might show who he thinks has the better form of Frank and Andy. If Shack has more guys in the mountains it's going to make the podium fight a big one yet. Second to fifth in this Tour might be one of the best we've seen in a while.

Remember the one mountain stage in a former Tour when Lance nearly lost it from dehydration but limited his losses.

NB: I'm disinclined to believe that photo above in the age of PhotoShop. Two me it looks like two superimposed images. (I think the riders' figures are cut out from the background: look at the edges).

That photo is even on the NY Times website. It's credited to Bas Czerwinski/Associated Press.

Look, I don't think anyone will mistake me for a fanboy, but I not only believe he still has a shot, I think he has a good shot. He is obviously stronger than last year, and he wasn't that far off last year. I also think that it is more than a 3 man race this year. That third week should be great fun.

good to read something reasonable on here.

concur

well, THAT settles everything. if it's in the new york times, it MUST be true.

did contador change bikes before the pave? his handlebar tape and break levers in the lance/alberto picture are not the same as the bike contador rode on the cobbles.

Evans will have a really bad day in the mountains, so forget about him for the podium. Same for Menchov. Wiggins, is going to loose time to LA in the mountains. LA is going to put a lot of time into Schleck in the final TT.
Contodor wins, question is is LA 2nd or 3rd.

BTW, got to love JetBlue. I got to see 2 hours of this stage on the way back from Florida!

Unfortunately I agree with your guess... unless lil' Cadel can borrow some good gear and have a more even Tour he is unlikely to be consistent enough... not sure Menchov and Wiggins are in the same boat though... and Schleck the Younger is more than enough to anyone other than AC in the mountains... I'll put LA in 5th come Paris ;)

He did. Just before the pave section, he switched to a Roubaix SL3.

To the OP ...

In this years RIDE magazine Tour guide in an interview with Contador the interviewer asks " Have you forgiven him?" (In relation to Lance V Contador @Astana circa 2009). Contadors reply was " But I have nothing to forgive him for".

Looks like they have moved on to me ...

So WHATS YOUR POINT ??????

To the OP? FFS man this thread is going on 6300 posts, who even remembers who the OP was? Chances are excellent he's been banned and been back three or four times (if he's one of the "good guys", otherwise 30-40 times).
Maybe it's time we all moved on, besides Lance is only months away from the pen anyway.

as anyone - no, make that *everyone* - who knows mewould say: "i respectfully...agree!" :D

now that i know contador switched bikes...well, that sure could explain the differece in the handlebar tape & break levers in the lance picture vs. the same on the bike he rode on the pave.

I didn't realize it until I was reading his press release and looked at the pictures again.

LOL, still believe it looks doctored in PhotoShop to me (the riders' edges vs. the background). Just my opinion. Someone wanted to make this go viral :D

Versus and TV feeds would have picked it up for live commentary. Too juicy not to talk about.

Theme makes sense (albeit a little risky for Lance), but not the photo quality.

Edit: yes, Cerberus, that's possible.

Or it's just a split second expression captured in a snapshot which looks perfectly normal when displayed on video.

I bit on this photo on another thread but the difference in definition is obvious. PS but good content. LA may not get close enough to Contador to actually take this picture for the rest of the Tour unless he assaults him in the parking lot before a stage.

By the way Alberto, Andy "did to"

Armstrong really needs to get over it before he bursts a blood vessel. This motivation by adversity stick will take him only so far. It worked versus Ullrich, Beloki, Pantani and Mayo but I believe it's going to take a lot more for him to come out on top this time.

He has many more superior subjects as well. Do you think yelling at Cadel will get him anywhere? He's shouting at the wind at this point.

LA saw Cadel's slapfight during the Giro. No way he wants a piece of that. :D
