For the record I disagree with RR as much as agree. He keeps it civil or humorous and I don't lose sleep over the fact that we disagree. You are correct that there is a mutual conclusion emerging from the thread.

Winning the team classification used to be a guarantee, that you will be invited for the following tour de france.
If this is still the case they are already invited.

I don't know that is correct, but assuming it is it does not apply here. Astana, not Team Radio Shack, won the team classifcation in 2009.

The Tour is a money making operation so............

Might have been different if Clerc had still been around.

And one other rider. While it might be Steegmans... that wouldn't be the normal way Bruyneel operates. Rast or Vaitkus might be more in line with what he'd like to do. Steegmans would want to save energy to sprint on flat stages... RS will probably bring a guy to fetch water for the climbers on the flat stages and protect Lance. But I do think they bring 7-8 of their best climbers.

I just read again the recent cylingnews article where Bruyneel talks about Steegmans and he doesn't make any commitment about the Tour.

I feel a little bad for the guy, but I don't think they should take him.
Lance, Kloden, Levi, all longshots as it is.
I don't think the risk of sprint scrums is worth it when he stands little chance of a good showing without a professional lead out train.

Yes, now it is quite easy to see how the cannot manage to field a team for the second Grand Tour of the season.
They obviously don't have enough three week riders in their squad.


Oh and Steegmans has no chance. Rast didn't leave Astana to be on the sidelines. Someone has to be a donkey.

They've turned sprinters into donkeys before, like Hincapie. Although Rast would be a better allround worker I think.

I expect them to get one, but as of today they don't have one. I was going for accuracy, not predicting that there is a chance they won't get an invite.
