I suspect the Armstrong comeback tour has postponed the looming boredom of Contador for me. Any others in the same boat?

LOL, exactly. I must admit it's pretty funny to see Contador grinding Armstrong to bits mentally without even trying to.

But if the crushing defeat of the competition is boring why do we follow cycling?

Isn't it exactly that, that made LA popular with the English speaking media.

AC has a certain flair and grace on the bike compared to LA, for him it always seemed to be brute force and determination (and some good luck too). AC seems to have another type of strength and determination but he also has a flowing style and the ability to go with his gut-feelings against a biased team manager and a sulking team mate (it remains to be seen if he has the luck).

I don't think I'll ever get bored of seeing someone crush the competition - but I do get bored of the same person doing so, time and time again.

With Armstrong, I was bored prior to his fourth. With Indurain, it was right after the first long TT in 92.

Can we now officially change the name of Armstrong supporters from "fanboys" to "chubby chasers"?

Works for me.

Betsy Andreu probably has way too much class for this, but I'd love it if she sent Lance a year's membership to Curves. :D

He needs to call Dr Life:

With his six-pack stomach, bulging chest and bull-like shoulders, the muscleman in the newspaper advertisement displays the sort of rippling torso that adorns the cover of men's fitness journals.

But there is one difference. From the neck up, Dr Jeffry S Life is a balding 67-year-old physician.

His physique is the product not of a computer touch-up but a controversial American "ageing management" technique, that often includes a cocktail of human growth hormones and testosterone.

I am still of the opinion that he will do the Tour and support Leipheimer. On the road he will mug for the cameras a few times so the fanboys will gush over what a good teammate he is even as they forget about what he did last year. He knows that people will fawn over him if he simply shows up, and that is why he really unretired in the first place.

I was thinking about the Criterium and wasn't thinking of it as Tour related, when I spoke, but frankly, I don't see Armstrong making it up the last hill. However, you are probably right. This is an ASO deal, and Armstrong and Prudhomme are in bed together, so it's probably a done deal. So, I'm changing my prediction to being that Leipheimer will probably flat on the last hill and fatty will give him his bike.

So...how long will the cycling media continue the charade of building up Armstrong's chances at the Tour?? He looks like he is preparing for the UFC instead of the TdF.

as long as it brings in readers

Maybe part of Bruyneel's "genius" is that he has his riders playing possum and then right on time they dominate the 2010 Tour and party like it's 1999.

I'll say this-if Armstrong shows form in the time trials and mountain stages that he has in years prior then might as well make the farce complete and put Ferarri on the podium alongside him.

If this stupid, bloated and clearly horrendously off-form idiot dominates the Tour this year, it would be a clear victory for the doping culture that exists within pro cycling, moreso than his previously ridiculous string of seven Tour wins.

I was at the Tour of the Gila last year and I had finished my race just a bit earlier so we were at the finish in Pinos Altos. Saw Armstrong pass right by me and remembered thinking, wow, he's pretty big for a Tour contender.

Then July rolls around and he looked like he dropped 20-25 lbs easily.
And I Can Always Remember these things.

"Armstrong = Cartman in a Radio Shack kit" was Hugh Januss' idea.

I am going to call him "Lance Cartman."

Hmmmm, so would the associated 'brand' be 'CartStrong' or 'LiveLarge'?
