We can only wonder what turned you into a troll. A creepy neighbor offering free candy I imagine.

A creepy uncle, a victory celebration in 1999 and a blond wig. He has never been the same.

At least you camped out when water was liquid. I remember being sent off on Scout winter campouts, which was much like a dissident being sent to a Siberian gulag. After trudging through snow in Levis and Moonboots, we had the pleasure of building snow caves. This meant that everyone got soaking wet while building their shelter. Cold does not even begin to describe the nights.

The ordeals were made worse by a Scoutmaster who must have watched too many British war films. Aside from being cheerful all the time, he thought we should sing songs as we reenacted an Antarctic version of the Bataan death march. I slept dreaming that he would be eaten by a mountain lion or attacked by hungry badgers.

I blame those traumatic experiences for the way I am today.

Brodeal, I feel your pain but your post reliving your experiences brought tears to my eyes, from my guilt of fighting back from laughing. They pretty much mirrored my nightmarish scout camping experiences.

Back on topic? He has been testing Luke's pinewoord car in the windtunnel! He's ready for the tour

Sorry for the OT trip down memory lane, but if we're on topic, I have to wonder why a guy with a private jet had to cancel a race next Sunday and two races the following week against the guy he claims to be his bitter rival because of an event today.

Major technical difficulties for "The Current" in the derby.

To keep things fair, the Scouts have Pinewood Derby kits kids can buy for around four dollars. It's got a block of wood, four wheels and axles.

http://www.scoutstuff.org/BSASupply...UCTS&c2=CRAFTS&C3=DERBIES&C4=&LV=3&item=17006

I'm not sure how what major technical difficulties would look like. If the wheels are on, and the axle spins, you should be good to go. Maybe the name of the car gives a clue? Or maybe one of the 2.5 million twitter followers squealed to a Scoutmaster or other parents about the alleged trip to the wind tunnel, and it was thought best to accidentally back over it with a SUV rather than compete and get bad press? Just wondering.

Either way, I think he should drink some expensive red wine to get over the loss, man up and later in the week fly the private jet to race Amstel Gold a week from today.

This just reminded me of the overaggressive as*hole we had in our troop. Absolutely insufferable until his tentmate walked in on him unannounced. The tentmate loudly explained for all to hear as to why Larry's merit badge patterned handkerchief looked like he had a cold all year round. Larry left the camp that night and was a quiet boy at school until summer. He didn't show up at the same middle school the rest of kids went to the next year.

Boyscouts teaches humility as well, I guess.

Whilst having to endure a bit of B1 and B2 on Sunday night (no wonder I fell asleep) I heard a good one.

It was something along the lines of Lance riding an amazing Flanders but also holding himself back (apparently he might have won) and that now having raced over cobbles this year, has the psychological advantage over Contador going into the tour.

I kind of wish they'd switch to subliminal messages for that stuff. Right now it's like Tokyo Rose in the war movies, but without the cool music. :D

Contador, of course, is massively panicked:

Contador finally answered some questions about Armstrong and his recent schedule change, which will not match again before the Tour. “Everyone choose the most appropriate schedule”, he said without going into controversy. “I think his only motivation is in terms of his planning. Each one has its own way to prepare. I like to compete fairly in the early season and although his calendar is not the one I like, he will have done their calculations”, he said.

The ASO promised to get the exact details of the cobbles sections out in the middle of this month so riders can do recon at their convenience. It's going to be three of the sections from P-R, but going the opposite direction. Contador, Noval and others will be out there testing equipment and learning every foot of pave. I guess in July we'll have to have a thread just for Versus personalities explanations of things.

Hate to say it but I was impressed that Popo started and finished P-R. To me it's more what the team can do over the cobbles not the leaders themselves.

I expect Vino to be the difference.

Hog... I'm curious about your statement that you believe the team to be more important then the leader come the tour.

I've been going back and forth about this myself... wondering if the cobbles will be better for someone like Lance who's finished RVV in the top 30 several times... or someone like Menchov or the Schlecks who have teams with lots of cobbled experience to help them out.

You seem to go to the later... can you explain why? I'm still grappling with it myself.

Does Astana really have much experience on the Cobbles?

Noval
Maxim Iglinsky (finished in top 10 at RVV)
Grivko
Gasparrotto

I think at least 3 of those guys make the TdF team (namely the first 3).

Surely, that question could be directed at the Shack, too.
Kloeden, Horner, Leipheimer, Brajkovic, Paulinho...........
More than half the team, alien to pave.

My guess is that Lance will be looking to the other US sources for applied pressure.

Maybe we'll see the same crash carnage as 2004, with similar collaboration to distance "lightweight" contenders.
On the other hand, maybe much ado about nothing.

Vino hasn't ridden much on the cobbles, either. The odd Belgian Tour and a few races in his early years.
Odd, when you consider he's built for the job.

He's also a reasonably good bike handler and good at recovery from attacks. His early regime probably had as much to do with opportunity as specific interest. You do what the team wants you to do.

Why do the LA haters bring peoples' children, the boy scouts, mothers of children, peoples wives and girlfriends in context to Lance Armstrong?

I suggest Jake Keough from UHC. As good as he was at crashing Bahatti out of a race, I bet he could do a number on Contador.

I agree, the groupies really should stop attacking Betsy. It just makes them look bitter and spiteful.

True. Iglinsky was the only rider I knew of, and that was because of RVV. I think those three are definates for the TdF team. Gasparotto I think has a good chance as well. Didn't he wear the Maglia Rosa while with Liquigas?

Good point.

The more I think about it, the more I feel the contenders may neutralize and let the classics specialists do their thing....as long as they don't get too far ahead.
