Kelderman compares himself with guys like Wiggins and Evans.

Kinda logical. Good prologues, good time trials.. but different with wiggins since Kelderman is usually also good on short uphill finishes (like Evans)

But ok, lot of development ahead. We'll see in 5 years were he is

Surely you mean 5 months when he crushes everyone on Le Grand Colombier?

Surely a forum inspired article that

kelderman will likely have a quiet season tho, I agree.
That being said he hasn't been too bad thus far.

Compares himself to Wiggins and Evans? Seems a little premature imo.

He didn't say he was as good as said riders, nor did he say he would ever be. He simply said he was that type of rider, nothing premature about that.

For example, I would say I am a Boonen type rider, in a totally useless sense.

It's still premature. Like it says in the article, it's not known what kind of rider he'll turn into. He seems convinced he'll turn into an Evans type of rider, but that may just be wishful thinking on his part.

Unlike Dekker_T, Wilco Kelderman doesn't overrate Wilco Kelderman. He just says he thinks he's the same type of rider as those guys. Diesel climber/time trialist.

He could have said "I think I'm the same type as Jerome Coppel", which would essentially mean the same.

He may be more of a Cancellara type rider. Way too early to talk about "GC" and "Evans" and "Wiggins," IMO.

He doesn't have the results to back it up. Top 15 in an easier Tour de l'Ain than last year's edition. He's decent in the hills, but let's see what he does in a "proper" mountain stage.

They do the Grand Colombier in l'Ain every year... to finish among the 20 best in your first year as an espoir in that race betrays at least some talent for long climbs. Not to mention that he won on the Ballon d'Alsace in that same year by riding everyone off his wheel.

Last year he wasn't great in the climbs, but he was plagued by crashes and injury. Which the Cyclingnews article doesn't mention.

Sigh. The guy says he sees himself as a GC rider, and that he THINKS he's the same type of rider as Evans or Wiggins. Nothing premature about that. He's not claiming he's the next Evans or Wiggins, he just thinks he might turn into the same type of rider, but he knows it isn't a certainty until he proves it with the big boys. One can only gauge and subsequently aspire to be a type of rider using past results. Looking at his palmares you'll find that he's a good time trialist - great even in his conti years - and can climb well. Hence Wiggo and Evans to a certain extent - he still needs to figure out his explosiveness. You guys are making way too much out of this.

Oh well, you need the 18-Valves to balance out the Dekker_Tifosis, I guess

Extreme cynicism vs. extreme hype, where's the shades of grey?

Indeed. Dekker_T aside, they are creating the same hype - by overstating what Wilco said - that they will criticize later, depending on how Wilco fares in his first year as a pro. Poor guy.

No, he thinks he already IS the same type of rider. Not nearly as good, obviously, but that's not what I meant. I know he realizes that. He's a prologue specialist and a good TTer, but is only okay-ish as a climber. So not really the same type of rider as Evans, Wiggins and Coppel, IMO.

- the youngest

He won on the Ballon, but not by much (0 seconds in fact), but against what competition, though? Only Jeandesboz deserves a mention and he didn't do much that year.

As for the Tour de l'Ain........ it wasn't as hard as last year because they didn't finish on the Colombier. Obviously they didn't race it as hard.

I'm still waiting for 'The official Yoeri Havik is the new De Vlaeminck - thread'. Why hasn't it been set up yet?

Lol. He made it over the top with the best 20 guys, if they went harder he'd have finished 100th... feel free to believe that. I like to see things in perspective, and consider this a very good result, climbing-wise, for a first year espoir.

No, that spot has already been taken by Andy Fenn ;)

I'm sorry, but saying you think you're the same type of rider and saying you are the same type of rider are different things in my opinion; think being the operative word here. ''Think'' implies that he still needs to really figure it out for himself. Again, you are making wayyy too much of this. It's quite remarkable.

I didn't say or imply that. It's is a good result, but it doesn't suggest he's an Evans type of rider. But apparently he only "thinks" he's that kind of rider, so I'm not allowed to comment on it. Makes sense.
