But you say he doesn't know what type of rider he will be etc. Whilst true, not entirely; likely if he has an idea of the type of rider he wants to be, he will focus his training and body weight etc on this sort of thing. So your theory or concept that it is gonna be some totally random development is false.
Maybe he knows, maybe not. There are countless of examples of the latter. Brajkovic readily comes to mind. Though of course some still believe Brajko can top 10 in the Tour.
Again. I never said that Kelderman claimed he was going to reach Evans' level. How many more times do I have to say this? It was always about the type of rider he thinks he is now and will become in the future.
His results up until now point more towards a Thomas Dekker type of rider (when he was on the juice), IMO. Dekker finished top-5 in the Tour de l'Ain when he was 20 (I think). Maybe Kelderman will prove to be a better climber. Based on his past results you can't expect much more than that, IMO.
You can't rule it out, though, obviously. That applies to a large number of riders, though. Some GT riders didn't do much at all an espoir, others are early bloomers. But if you can barely put time into "Bling" Matthews on 1st category climbs, I dunno. True, he was very young, but so were Matthews and Quintana. Not too many sprinters on the podium, btw.
Of course, Kelderman will focus his training on stage races and will continue to improve year after year (up to a point). No argument there.
What Wiggins' (track guy) and Evans' (MTB guy) U-23 results got to do with anything is beyond me.

Usually a neo pro climber at Rabo does Fleche Wallonne, and maybe Lombardia at the end of the season. That's it, as far as classics. I think Kelderman's next races will be Almeria and Murcia.
Van Winden will do the cobbled classics again I think, at least that's what he did last year and what his preparation seems to be geared toward. Not really an out and out cobbles specialist, but a course like Flanders 2.0 might suit him.

His best climbing performance ever I'd say. He has never shown something like this in his U23 period. Avenir and Ain were ok, but not like this.
Still, compared to Dombrowski (WOW!! that man was good) he came up short. But maybe that's too much in expectations. After all he stayed ahead of Teejay Van Overrated and Leipheimer
