@hayneplane

That one indeed, the one Vélo d'Or was stolen from a classics rider although it was well deserved. So yeah, it will need to involve PR plus WC RR win for me, among others. Considering Pogi raced PR for the first time and only one rider could match him, others representing dead wood, i don't see a real problem involved in achieving that in the future. Then they will have to give Vélo d'Or to a rider that won PR and WC RR, among others. True revenge.

Velo D’Or pretty much by default goes to the Tour de France winner unless someone else has done something extraordinary not done in decades.

Nah, it's more like TdF is the tiebreaker in case there's not much difference, or if nobody truly has a world class season it goes to the TdF winner by default.

They've won the last 9 monuments, last 3 World championships and the big 2 one day races so far this year. This can't go on like this can it?

Just like it happened with the Roglic and Vingegaard rivalries before, this one is also now clearly tilted towards Pogacar. 12 career monument wins for Pogacar and 'only' 8 for Van der Poel with the Slovenian finishing above the Dutchman in their three meetings this season, so far.

I do think though with the level that Van der Poel showed this year he will win at least one more monument, it was probably the highest level that I ever saw someone have in Flanders-Roubaix and come home empty handed.

Just laughable to read this thread in the last year. I don't even know what those, who said MVP was better, were thinking.

Clearly 2011 Cancellara. MVP is not good enough against Pogacar in RVV. Cancellara was clearly the strongest in both RVV and PR and still didn't win them.

12 v 8, but 1 rider participates in all 5, and the other one in 3.

Pogacar is also a better GT rider

Pogacar has raced 22 monuments top 10 all but 2, MVDP raced 24 and top 10 all but 1.
Pogacar has beat MVDP 9 times (2LBL 0 GdL), MVDP beat Pogacar 5 times.

If Pogacar decided to race only the 3 monuments suited to him, these were his results:
RVV - 4th, 1st, 1st, 1st
LBL - 18th, 3rd, 1st, DNF, 1st, 1st
GdL - 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st

11 wins in 15 races. 12 podiums. 13 top10.

Please, let's not compare MVP with Pogacar.

If MVP decided to race all monuments like Pogacar, his win rate/podium rate would be a lot worse.

Edit: Pogacar in all monuments - 12 wins in 23 races. Win rate = 52%. In his 3 more suited races - 11/15= 73%

MVP in all monuments - 8 wins in 24 races. Win rate=33%. In his 3 more suited races - 8/21= 38%

What are we really comparing? If even last year was ridiculous to compare MVP with Pogacar, now it's just madness.
