You can see Vingegaard in the back looking around for his domestique in yellow to close the gap. :tongueclosed:

Would he have gained time on Remco and Pog, probably his main contenders, if he worked together with them? No, unless one of them punctured. Instead, it would have been a big risk, maybe a new puncture or a Pog attack he couldn't follow.
And was it evenly likely that they would have stayed away for 75k? Don't think so, so wasted energy then.

Vinge himself:

"If I ride seventy kilometers with the two of them and then get dropped in the last kilometers - which also happened - then my Tour could be over. So it wasn't a lack of balls, but just smart racing."
Why would he get dropped ? And not Evenepoel (or eve Pogacar) ? Evenepoel always working (too) hard (even more than other riders in a break) and yesterday a bit fading at the end. Pogacar and evenepoel also could have punctured. That's not a valid argument.

The real test for Remco is the double mountain stages in the pyreenes this weekend.
If he can hang fairly well with Pog and/or Vinge on both this stages then it will get really interesting.

Really curious to see how he will go, seems to be in better shape than ever.

It’s a very mild insult, but if I made such a comment here about a poster, it would be deleted. Because it is an insult.
Yes, it would, but that is because we are not here to discuss each other.

I don't expect it to be after I get home from working with teenage boys that I have to deal with a bunch of bad tempered exchanges about perceived testicular diameter...

Regarding Evenepoel's comments...

What he said could certainly have been taken as insulting...which is in the ear of the beholder. Maybe Vingo was insulted, maybe not. Whatever the case, in the US we'd call those comments "bulletin board material", as in "I'm going to post this on the team bulletin board, so that you can all read them every time you walk in here for the next several days". If I'm Vingo, I'm thinking, "We'll see who has balls when I'm dropping your ass on Plateau de Beille". Whether he does or not, you get the point.

Comments like this have the tendency to fire up the opposition, which makes them...dumb.

What we also saw wasn't "nuance" as many have posited here, what we saw was a guy who realized what he said was dumb (progress!) and immediately "walked back the comments" in real time. So he's learning...a bit. But his instinct is self-centered, he sees the race through his lens. He then realized that Vingo had perfectly good reasons for not racing with them, he doesn't care whatsoever about the podium, he's not worried about Roglič, etc. He's maturing in that he sees when he's being stupid and tries to correct it. But he's not there yet.

I like Remco. I don't particularly like Vingo, he's boring. But he's also the 2-time defending Tour champion and Remco hasn't done jack squat in the Tour so far, and he should show more respect. Which he immediately realized.

I don't mind controversy, but I do mind dumb.

Why?
Head winds usually tends to pull out the initiative of attacks.
Cross winds, on the contrary...
But seems unlikable with present weather forecasts.
(sry was sleepy there, just realized post was old, however the considerations can be used on a general term).

my post was before and about the ITT.

headwind helps remco create bigger gaps -- since he is the aero-bullet.

Well, what you don't realize is that almost nobody would have chased. Of course not UAE and VLAB. Not Landa, Not Roglic and his teammates because they were cooked. Maybe INEOS for a while. But after a while, not being helped by other teams, they would have stopped their efforts. Also, INEOS didn't make impression. So, even not riding full gaz in the final, Pogacar, Evenepoel and Vingegaard would have kept 1 to 2 minutes at the finish.
At that point in the race, vinegaard has a team with him, whereas remco does not. Of course Remco would rather it be mano a mano a mano, especially on rolling terrain, but only an idiot would give up their advantage. What would stop Pog or Remco from attacking at some point before the finish? You must think Ving is pretty dimwitted.
