I feel he got lucky today with the weather, took more out of Ganna and Tarling.
Wow. There were barely 5 corners on the entire course, lol. I mean, he isn't the best at cornering, but he's not thát bad. One could say they were lucky they got a chance to beat him less than a week after the TDF, no?

Either way, ridiculous take.

When Remco gets the gold August 3rd he will be the only cyclist with two golds in the two most important Olympic cycling events. If he wins the worlds and some Italian classic can he still get velo d'or?

No. Only way he would win is recency bias, and I'm a Remco fan.

Hope we get to see him take on Pogacar in worlds and Lombardia without crashes getting in the way.

When folks wondered where he lost time in the last Tour stage it was pretty obvious the extremity of his position had something to do with it. Today he was more elevated on corners and knew exactly where he was going. Being in the absolute most aero, power position was only going to work in a few spots on this funhouse course. He was probably just a little bit quicker out of corners than the taller guys and accelerated more comfortably.
Well deserved win due to riding skill as much as his power.

You know, he was lucky Ganna and Tarling didn't ride the Tour now that that has been proven to be the best preparation.

;)

More mental then physically. They prepared for this race, but not the rain. That nullified the advantage they had and threw it open. Riding the wet corners almost to a standstill still favored lighter Remco vs the heavy frames of Ganna and tarling.
Not saying he would not have won without rain. He relaxed the last 5 km where he lost some 10 sec, while the others went full speed. And that without specific ITT preparation, so really he nailed it.

I was dead wrong.

Man, did he ever corner well today. Like it was a different rider from the Galiber or the Puy Mary
Still a small difference with the Tour. Not a 10 % downhill.

But I have to admit. He has improved his cornering (and downhill) skills during the Tour (and olympic TT). A mixt of "not taking risks" (and the peace of mind that brings) and a growing confidence. OK, it takes him time during the Tour in the descents, the time trials and in the Olympic time trial. But taking more risks would probably not have resulted in a different outcome. Unless he lost everything in a crash.

Tarling lost silver, not gold. That bikechange (not a crash) was not 28s.
A crash has the effect of about 15 seconds of delay and another 10 seconds extra (a bit more or less) depending on the shock, the pain and the loss of confidence. So, at least 25 seconds (usually even more).
A (well prepared) bikechange has an effect of 15 seconds (5 seconds slowing down with a flat) and 10 seconds to stop, change bikes and get up to speed. No effect of loss of confidence. So, indeed, Tarling would probably have beaten Ganna for silver but it would have been close.

not even with an all Belgian jury voting, Pogacar tour was the best I have ever seen in 40 years watching, and if he wins the worlds there is a serious case to be made this is the most dominant cycling season in history. I feel he got lucky today with the weather, took more out of Ganna and Tarling.
Tarling rode far better corners than Evenepoel. Almost as good as Van Aert. Ganna did not. Especially after his near crash (but in a straight road). So, without rain, even without the flat of Tarling, I think the result would have been the same (Tarling not losing time after his flat but Ganna riding relatively faster in the corners).
