Interested to find out if the foot was intentionally taken off the gas in order to lose time and allow for the last week to simply be completed safely. Or if it's reserves are completely exhausted. Obviously, whether he continues or not will be one of the tell-tale signs.

There are training advantages to completing another week if he is not at exhaustion or risk of injury.

Some difficult lessons learnt during his first GT. Should be more ready next time, with better preparations (both physical and technical).

The short version is the training stress load and experience that the third week of GT would uniquely provide.
Besides the experience, he completely lacks endurance now. with a rest-day tomorrow and only 5days remaining. He can just put himself in the groupetto and build up some endurance. Of course that is only possible if he isn't running on fumes... which is unclear.

The uniqueness of GT's 3rd week stress and load could actually be quite harmful if you're so underprepared (even if not that much exhausted or injured). I've never heard anyone racing Giro just for the unique training conditions it provides in 3rd week.

Yes, he obviously lacks endurance (that'd be a miracle if he wasn't), but why to build it up during Giro? (I'm also reffering to him doing this Giro at all). Training camps, a series of one-day races, 1-week races are the places when you build your endurance.
Why Slovenians are not doing the Giro as a preparation for the Tour, if it really is that beneficial? Why they actually decided not to do much racing and prepare calmly in a more controlled conditions of the training camps?

Anyone know where Remco did the majority of his training prior to the Giro?

I didn't pay attention to it but heard or read that he trained in the Ardennes ...and with the team around Calpe, Spain and on Tenerife. I'm guessing that's not all, as it's not the best prep for the mountains of the Giro. There's like one big climb in Tenerife with passable gradients.

He did do an altitude training in Pardollano in the Sierra Nevada along with Almeida. I don't know how the climbs are there though.

Well Ullrich did once :) He did everything on his own tempo back than. Only in the TT he tried his best and all other stages were like training rides for him.

But of course Remco did two weeks into the red.. so maybe it is to late already. Still if you have the energy and are still recuperating from low intensity efforts I believe riding the 3rd week within the green/orange zone would still be helpful.

Remco said after the finish that he had an off-day and that this was something they knew could happen. He also said that he would now evaluate what he can do for Almeida and the team. He said that he definitely wants to finish in Milan.

After Sestola, Ascoli, Campo Felice I heard that he's a diesel who will only make up time on these long climbs. Where are all those deluded people today..

I guess those people accept that 3 month preparation from starting to walk to GT is too little.. What they said isn't necessarily wrong when talking about Evenepoel, it might just not be applicable to him given the circumstances.

Let's hope he stays in the giro so he can help the leader
It should have been like that since stage 1, but it's better late than never.

Why would he support Bernal?

Nah you heard people unwilling to make conclusions about longer climbs based on Evenepoel not being explosive. That was not an unreasonable stance.

Are you of the school of thought that thinks that people who expected Froome to become a world-beater in Vuelta 2011 where geniuses? The outcome of a prediction does not determine whether that prediction was reasonable to make.
