It's Mas we are talking about here. 5 to 10 position GC rider that never wins anything. If you guys want to prove Remco is nr. 1 and the biggest thing in cycling since the invention of a wheel you should stop comparing him with second class riders. You just don't get it, that he's not as good as you want him to be. And that doesn't mean he's bad at all.

He's top 5 GC rider (4th place right now with chances to move up to third), around top 5 in 1 week races and top 3 classics rider. And world champion. Good enough in my book but NOT the best in the peloton. Not even if you put it all together.
Where he will be when he takes 90 seconds on roglic at lo port in Catalunya?

Where will he be, if he gets dropped or crashes out? How stupid can you guys be? Catalunya is 1 week long race. If Remco wins against healthy/not crashing Roglič, then he moves up in front of him in 1 week races probably. For GC (3 weeks long races), Giro will tell a lot. If Remco beats Roglič with both 100%, then Remco becomes third best GC rider in the world. If Vinge finishes bad in TDF and Pogačar wins, Remco even becomes second best in front of Vinge.

For now, Remco rode one GC race where he won against Mas and injured Roglič who crashed out early. That doesn't put him in top 3 right now.

Top 4 GC riders with results at this moment without a fantasy world Belgiums live in.

  1. Pogačar (2x TdF wins, 1x TdF 2nd place, 1x Vuelta 3rd place)
  2. Vingegard (1x TdF win, 1x TdF 2nd place)
  3. Roglič (3x Vuelta win, 1x TdF 2nd place, 1x Giro 3rd place)
  4. Remco (1x Vuelta win)

One of these is old and will move down slowly. Remco can take 3rd best place after this years Giro already.
To be considered 2nd best or even best, he needs to win against those two who are in front of him (in a GC race).

Froome is ahead of them all

Let's be real here. Surely you mean:

  1. Froome
  2. Bernal
  3. Pogacar
  4. Vingegaard
  5. Carapaz
  6. Hindley, Hart, my grandma
  7. Roglic
  8. Evenepoel
I included my grandma because if she has not been dead since before i was born, she might as well have been able to win the 2020 Giro.

PS: now i understand why people can make claims about Belgians being nationalistic without moderators taking action. It's because they think everybody discussing a Belgian rider is a Belgian. Or a Belgium if you prefer.

They are basically the same age…

That is actually glaringly false.

Pog is over a year older. And considering how much both are winning at a young age, that makes a huge difference in perception.

Imagine if Remco in that 1+ year has another season like last year…

Suddenly the comparison gets a lot closer.

Then add on the lost year after his fall…

Pog is definitely the more accomplished rider. Though I think there is some recency bias based off the amount he is winning this early season.

But there is a difference in age, especially since they both started winning so young.

Everyone dislikes a whiner.

Like Hot Chocolate sang: Everyone's a whiner.
But how is that relevant to my post?
You're the one first using nationalism in that discussion. There is a natural bias in riders being supported by their fellow countrymen. Acknowledging is more reasonable than overreacting and calling mods to take action.
And now you're already making general claims you accuse other people of making.
Move on!
And I would prefer not helping to fatten this thread.

Bernal must be a joke

Then don't post nonsense in it. And clearly you don't understand the issue i was bringing up. And no, i was not the first one.

Remco lists him as the main rival for Giro win. He even downplays his own chances so the expectations won't be as high. Good enough to mention Roglič in top 4 GC right now for sure. You don't see that sure. You never did. Not my problem.
Of course I did in the past. But a rider can't be in a position to win a GT if he can't even finish a GT, as Roglic showed in 75% of his GTs the past 2 seasons.
