I'm not sure and I may be wrong (I often am), but I think Julian is on a fast decline.
Feels like the Sagan decline. Still a big name but rarely features at the business end of races although like Sagan winning a Giro stage could have another big moment in him at the Tour.

Difference is that Julian is actually still training pretty hard and living like a monk. I wouldn't write him off until we see how he does at TDF and WC.

multiple articles today are saying TDS
What’s even the point if he’s not doing Tour? If he’s in good enough form to compete well at TDS 2 weeks before the Tour then surely they can’t use the excuse that he doesn’t have enough time to prepare.

With Remco Evenepoel now back to training, his program for this month has been finalised.

After a period of consultation between Remco and the Soudal Quick-Step management and coaching team, it has been agreed that the 23-year-old will resume racing at the prestigious Tour de Suisse, followed by the time trial and road race at the Belgian National Championships. From there he will head to the team’s training camp at Val di Fassa.

By all logic, yes. Especially since he then goes to altitude. However, is this before or during the Tour? In preparation for Worlds? And what if he comes out of TdS red hot? With only 9 days of the Giro previously?
Any sane person would ride Tour if coming out of TdS red hot in these circumstances. But something something still not the right time, team not prepared, still recovering, past super peak, yadda yadda.

They’ll focus on the WC, I don’t expect him to ride the Tour after these messages. He really wants to win the WC TT and possibly the WC again. They believe he’s better after altitude than after the Tour so that’s why they decide not to do the Tour.

So same schedule a Ganna, another covid drop-out from the Giro, before the WC. TdS and NC ITT + RR.
The big difference is that Ganna usually underperfoms after coming down from altitude, while Remco is usually flying.

Indeed, just read the relative CN article. Team issues also a major consideration, although, as is said, one must strike while the iron is hot.

Great to see Remco doing a proper World Tour stage race instead of the Baloise Tour of Belgium with all the respect for the latter.

He shouldn't be in top shape but with almost 40 kilometers of ITT, I expect him to be on the final podium.

The TdS just got much more interesting.
If Remco isn't doing the Tour, he can go full for whatever (stages, GC).
I would still like to just see him doing TdS and the Tour next, but I guess we need to wait another year (and who knows what will happen in 2024: he can as well come red hot out of TdS this year, and crash in June next year and still not do the Tour...

I expect him to win Tour de Suisse and am hoping he will surprise everyone and ride the Tour for GC. Pogi’s form is questionable. Remco should be at our nearing lifetime peak so why not now eh?
