Crazy rouleur.
Yes, atm he's more of a De Gendt or Wellens than a top level climber, but with his power to weight ratio it's probably just a question of time until he becomes a better climber.
The team should have him ride more longer hilly one day races, usually less stress than the cobbled ones (better for someone who doesn't have a ton of experience when it comes to riding in the bunch/still hasn't the best bike handling skills) and he can work even more on his endurance. I'm mainly thinking about San Sebastian, maybe the Canadian races and Emilia near the end of the season.

That was a stunning ride to create such a big gap against a useful field on the kind of parcours that you would expect the time gaps to be just a few seconds.

The route is harder tomorrow judging by the profiles so if he has recovered well then I would not rule out him doing a destructive ride again and overhauling the GC.

Whatever happens until the end of the season he has shown that moving straight to the pros was a fair call and that he is already strong enough to win good races against strong riders but that he needs to quickly learn how to position himself and improve bike handling.

Just watched the stage, super impressive performance. Masnada struggled to hold his wheel even on the flat.
And completely emptied his tank trying to stay there as long as possible. He was almost two minutes ahead of the peloton with less than 15km to go and finished 25th in the end, 45 seconds down on the chasers. He got murdered by Remco.

if you remember how good Masnada was in the Giro in some breaks, this is totally insane.
To be fair, Masnada had been in the break since more or less the start of the race. A small break of only 5 guys where he likely was one to do his fair share of the work. In hindsight, i wonder if DQS is kicking themselves for leaving him behind on the gravel roads. They chose to take the gamble with Knox and go for the stagewin (which they likely would have won any way) but will ultimately miss the overall GC win.

Yes, Masnada also raced the test event in Tokyo just 3 days before the start of this race/the crit, so the jetlag probably had a bit of an influence.
Still, that was a super impressive performance.

Regarding people who think he's an *** / arrogant. A quote by his teammate Knox:
“He’s easy going, chatty, friendly, he’s always positive and happy.
... It’s been really pleasant with him so far.”

Keyword "teammate". What else is he supposed to say? Im not tryna argue or say that he is arrogant or whatever. I just would not take a quote from a teammate as any proof for anything though. Especially if he was asked by a reporter.

Yes. Obviously you need to consider the context. But there are literally dozens of things you could say, if you thought your teammate was an arrogant *ss. But i can't imagine any of those being "easy going, friendly, happy". You could say "he's very focused/motivated" or "he's still settling into the team / finding his way"...
Anyway, that's my take on it.

You missed out the bit of Knox's quote where he says "and he makes me look like a good bike handler"

Seriously I worry about him in the fight for position in a race like San Sebastian

What are the concerns with his bike handling, or rather, where can one see examples of the issue? I've seen rather little of his riding, just what's available on YouTube, and it hasn't struck me as an issue. I might worry about Campanaerts trying to follow his wheel, but...

Anyway a couple folks have made the comment, just curious about the details. Thanks.

First of all, he was just trying to be funny, Knox never made that comment as far as i know.

As for examples, look back a few pages. I made a post about it with 2 video examples.

Well he has crashed at least 8 times in 48 race days. That's a crash every 6 days of racing. Can't be all bad luck.

Gotcha. I have no access to this info, I just see him throttling people.

Evenepoel just beat Bernal in the... Criterium of Aalst

He seems not to have been informed about the how the plot of a post-Tour criterium should unfold.

I'm willing to be the organizers in Aalst created that plot very carefully. :D
