Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

Yes he is a much stronger sprinter. His sprints are different- he just seems to take off early and then kicks into that infernal pace where not many can follow. Doesn't it remind like MVDP? where he starts his sprints much earlier than anyone.

I would think the only way Evenepoel wins green is with 3-4 TTs and some LBL stages with the sprinters only getting two wins at most. But then Pog or WVA would be the favorite for green.

I think if he actually targeted it, he would be competitive. Jalabert won it and also did good GCs. Same with Sean Kelly

I wouldn't expect many stage wins. However, if he started to sprit and got time bonuses (which very well could occur), you know Pog and Vingegaard will start sprinting. Sprints could be far different. WVA likely gets put on Vingegaard lead out duty in that scenario

Laurens De Plus rode the fan ride yesterday with Remco.

They're friends, live close by and regularly train together when they are in Belgium.

When a reporter said they'd make good teammates, De Plus rather avoidingly answered: "Yes, but we'll see, we'll see."

It gives me more hope that De Plus will join the team next year as climbing domestique.

That would be great

Yeah, i must admit i wasn't expecting De Plus what appeared to be so obvious about it. Why would he be there to begin with? I don't even think Van Wilder was there, and he lives just as close by too. And the way he answered the questions it was almost like he was confirming it without actually confirming it. But if he stays healthy, he could be a major help, and exactly the type of rider they should be targeting, as i mentioned long ago.

Or that Remco joins Ineos. ;)

Good to see Remco is working on his bike handling skills.

It's a bit large, though. He's actually looking like a schoolboy.
He looks happy as a child. If Remco is happy, we are happy! 😊 He has reasons also and not just for having fun. His Brussels Cycling Academy is a good initiative. It's nice to see he does something valuable beyond being a cycling hero for many, which is of course also a driver to get children on a bike.

I've blasted Sagan for doing it years ago, so I have to be consistent: As a road cycling WC you should really only wear the rainbow stripes when riding a roadbike. On a MTB or a CX bike you're pretty much an imposter, since you aren't the WC. That's all of the nagging I'm gonna do today.
Wasn’t Sagan actually doing it while wearing his Road WC jersey vs the shirt Evenepoel is wearing?

IMO Remco is a much better rider than Jalabert, even in Jaja's enhanced program days. Comparing him to a Kelly is more appropriate.
But you're correct; he should polish his tactics with those bonus efforts. Never hurts.

and how Vingegaard sprinted today, oof

That is a way for Remco to chip away against Vingegaard. Exploit a weakness

There are few...er no guys that can attack on that hill, take 2 minutes back and pull all the way to the stage finish that will sprint very well. That's the difference between pure TdF GT discipline and stage hunters. There are also no riders that could've followed him today.

If Remco does Giro next year, it will be Giro/Vuelta double
I want him to to the Olympic double (ITT + RR).

Imagine a schedule where he goes for San Remo (Cipressa attack), Ronde (100 km attack), Liege (Redoute hat trick), then Olympic double and finish off the season with WC double and Lombardia.
Don’t bother about GTs next year Remco!
