I agree about the TTs. I already said the Tour is missing a real flat ITT of 55/60 km, but a lot of mountain stages in this Tour are also garbage.

This Tour is missing a real hard mountain finish like Granon, La loze(i'm waiting for the side of La Tougnette in the Tour), Portet, or Alpe d'huez.

Some of the mountain finishes are garbage like Col de la Couillolle.

Plateau de Beille is a good one

This tour really needs two tweaks. 30km extra on the first TT and add the Aubisque or Spandelles before the Tourmalet on the Pla D'Adet stage

That would give us a classic Tour route and we could see a decent battle between the TTists vs the climbers

Plateau is also a good one because is a stage of 200 km.

I don't understand why they are doing so much mountain stages with just 130/140 km, because that doesn't benefit the guys with better resistance.

I agree, too many short mountain stages.

stage 1 was a good one. Too bad the riders did not race it. Pla D'Adet had some great potential, but Gouvenou has to Gouvenou and refuses to put back to back monster stages.

If you gave him the 2007 route (which heavily favored the climbers despite 115km of flat ITT), he'd have a triple coronary. He'd melt down over Port de Pailhares and Plateau de Beille being the EASY mountain stage of a Pyrenean trio

I can't complain about MTFs when there are climbs like Plateau de Beille, Pla d'Adet or Isola (all after healthy dose of climbing). Those are good ones. To me the problem is way too weak first 13 stages (in terms of the mountains) i.e. too backloaded race. If we stick to this route then the Alpine stage should be harder and there should be something big between stage 10 and 12 (i.e. Puy de Dome or Mont Ventoux) instead of one mountain stage of the final weekend (i.e. Couillole stage). As for the TTs, almost 60 km of them is still not bad compared to other editions or this era.

could you please tell me what's the source for this ?
Oh, I'm sorry. An interview in HLN, but maybe after a paywall.

I totally agree. The idea of the French organizers was/is to favor the French riders because they are bad TT riders. But they also ultimately fall short in climbing. Gaudu in particular was pushed so much. But he was never worse than this year. In the meantime, the Tour has become less balanced for a number of years. In favor of climbers and less than all-rounders.

It would still be a battle between Pogacar and Vingegaard with two seemingly far away contenders in Remco and Roglic.
