I disagree for a number of reasons. In any case Wellens won and Remco got 2nd. Up next is the Tour.
But it is a fact Philipsen didn't work with Remco and still got dropped. So Phillipsen really did a perfect race tactically. This is not a opinion, this a fact. If he wasn't able to hang on without working, how the hell would he be able to follow Remco while working with him?
But it's funny how "we" blame boring races when aliens are racing against humans, specially when humans don't risk to lose in order to win but when they actually race with their head, "we" complain.
My POV is obvious: Races are boring as long as my favorite rider isn't winning.

I can’t fathom why you’re trying to make so much of this? He didn’t try to follow Wellens when he went; he wasn’t going to chase every attacker. You want to proclaim Remco isn’t very strong/psychologically capable, etc—just wait a couple of weeks.
He, himself said when Wellens attacked he couldn't follow. Now it's understood why, but being an UAE rider must have added salt to the wound.

Yes and no.

The first gap Wellens got (on Remco) was because of tactical reasons when Remco chose (wrongly in hindsight) to not react immediately. But afterwards Wellens did prove to be very strong by only gaining time on the chasers.

I don't think Remco has any illusions about the strength of Pogacar and his UAE team. Wellens already showed a very high level in the Dauphiné.
But Remco said he couldn't react immediately.

But Remco said he couldn't react immediately.
Remco had just attacked, got shadowed by Phillipsen. Allowed himself and Phillipsen to get held back in 2nd part of split front group. Hence why he could not respond immediately. Needed a minute to recuperate from his own attack, then get back to first part of the split group. When Remco started chasing after Wellens, Wellens had already been allowed 30+ seconds. In part cause of Wellens strenght, in part cause of timing of the attack, in part cause of people being focused on Remco and trying to eat his plate.

It should be a good team for the first ten days.

Eenkhoorn as bodyguard. Merlier and Van Lerberghe to help in the stages that don't end in a flat sprint. Cattaneo and Schachmann for the hilly stages.

In the mountains a lot will depend on the level of Van Wilder and Paret-Peintre not to get isolated too quickly.

I trust Cattaneo in the mountains more than I do the other two

Wiggins thinks Evenepoel has the potential to win the TDF but he will need to change teams.

I was thinking that if Pogacar beats Vingegaard by more than 2-3min this TDF, Visma should try to get Evenepoel so they have 2 leaders and could use a different approach

I couldn't watch the race. Was Jasper's attitude that nasty towards Remco?
Not at all the race was very very positive with many people attacking, including the favorites.
There were some really crazy crashes including crashing were a rider just spaced out and crashed alone. Crashing in the middle of the street because the action was so chaotic that riders were all overlapping wheels and riding half into each other with handlebars touching buttocks of rider to the right and left.
It looks like many smaller teams had do or die, literally importance on the race.
When Wellens attacked first few times, Remco also... just really really hurt the field. It was excellent, Remco likely thought that Wellens going alone and early, wouldn't work, Remco guessed incorrectly that it would come back together.. Wellens rode really solid, carrying excellent speed. That said once Remco recognized his mistake, he chased like a madman and looked absolutely great on the bike , his cadence was @5+% ( noticeable) faster and smoother than others. Despite the loss he looked very very solid and strong. As always Remco's climbing is in question.. But anything flat..the guy can fly.
