I agree but I still believe it should be a goal of the sport to have its best riders competing at the WC. They should make the course hard but the climbing within limits and with some yearly variations in intensity so chances to win are better than zero for the heavier guys. There should be a clear incentive to have the top UCI ranked riders to participate too. If cycling wants to increase its credibility, the WC is a starting point. We can't expect to get interest from non-traditional cycling countries if the top stars are missing on the event that in most sports is considered the main event of the year.
On UCI rankings, 2nd and 3rd places are currently filled by Jonas Vingegaard and Mads Pedersen. What course is going to attract both of them?

Outstanding comments if accurate, I assumed delivered with a "Gonna do what I'm gonna do even if I might get smoked doing it" way? I don't think he has any allusions about who Pogacar is.
No, however, his utter dominance of the TT indicates he doesn't have to fear anybody, not even Pog. It's a necessary altitude, that of a champion. At the same time, and this ties into your statement about knowing who Pog is, Remco stressed having his feet on the ground and the need to just keep to the plan. Let's see.

Well. But we can't ignore the fact that everyone had more demanding schedules.

VDP could also tell Remco to look for opportunities in San Remo, Flanders, or Roubaix. And Vingegaard could tell him that not finishing a GT in a year leaves the legs fresher.

Really the only one who can talk about absences every year is Pogacar, who has the most demanding calendars in recent years, rancing against everyone on every terrain.
The rest are not in a position to talk about opportunities.
Perhaps breaking bones has something to do with it, and we will see him in Flanders soon, I hope. In theory, the Vuelta should have well prepared Vingeggard for this Worlds. On the other hand, the Dane shys away from anything but stage races, which is a shame for the sport. He should at least try or try again races such as Liege and Lombardia, whereas a Worlds with 5000+ elevation should be mandatory.

Historically this has been the case, with World Champions varying between big engine climbers, to classics winners, to sprinters.

No, this variety of winners has happened precisely because Peterfin's prescribed "hard but the climbing within limits and with some yearly variations in intensity so chances to win are better than zero for the heavier guys" has not been the route every year. The wide scope of winners you note happens because routes have been as different from each other as Copenhagen and Innsbruck.

Yeah , WC always been a bit weird. it's like a NC. Every year a different route, designed for different type of riders.
Quite often they quietly make sure the big guns of the moment have a parcours suited for them every now and then.
It's like the TdF. Everyone gets a turn. Sprinters, classic riders, mountain guys, in between, .. .

Seriously, apart from today’s result, next season will be a decisive one for his further career. He definitely needs to come back to 2022 and Tour 24 climbing levels, otherwise there‘s no reason why Red Bull should be building the team around him for GCs. Not talking about ITT and one day races of course.

(Even younger) competition not sleeping either: Lipowitz, Del Toro etc.

So I really hope the new team, the new environment will have proper effects on hs development. Otherwise it will be a tough one to take - big victories, but even bigger „what-ifs“ in a world without any injuries…

I don‘t get it though. Was it just the bike (the bikes)?! Lol. He‘s really strong now.

Still don‘t know why he stopped pedaling before 2nd bike change. Lost at least 30 seconds in that situation.
