Where are they now?

How about a "where are they now" thread for some less well known former pros. I'll start:

1. Armand de la Cuevas
2. Thierry Marie
3. Clayton Stevenson
4. Jay Sweet
5. Luc Roosen
6. Giles Delion
7. Jeff Bernard
8. Steven Rooks
9. Edwig van Hooyedonck
10. Rolf Sorensen

armand de las cuevas lives on mauritius where I think he also has a cycling team and rode for many years after his career. mauritius has a number of pro riders locally.

Merge?

We had a good thread going some time ago like this. :) Have a look here:

http://forum.cyclingnews.com/showthread.php?t=9443

The last I have seen written in detail on De Las Cuevas was in 2002, running a cycling team and winning a little race in Guadeloupe. His interview back then was quite interesting. Curiously enough, FR Wikipedia has him trying for a comeback in 2006 but failing a dope test. No elaboration on that though.

I saw Van Hooydonck at the Ronde last year. Put on some weight but he looks well.

Jef Bernard is a correspondent for L'Equipe and a sometime commentator on French TV.

An interview with Delion in 2006 had him riding MTB. He was also interviewed as recently as 2009 about the old days but nobody thought to ask him about now.

Rolf Sørensen also works as a commentator during Tour de France and other major races during the season for the danish TV station, TV2.

And he's recently written a book (primarily for the Danish market) about all things cycling. He has also led some cycling tours in pretty Italian locales for Danish cyclo-tourists, and I believe he has represented a good number of (primarily Danish) riders as an agent. Overall, he seems to be intelligent, versatile, and most of all stays busy. He does pretty well for himself at home in Denmark. Also, after a post-retirement period of weight gain and sedentary living, he's started riding more again, shed most of the weight, and entered a number of exhibition road and track events for old-timers.

Actually Rolf Sørensen got back into shape to complete Challenge Copenhagen (an Ironman). He did it in 10 hours and 5 minutes. Not all that bad :)

I think I heard Jay Sweet is now working as a tradie in NZ
Lay low for a couple of years and then come out and torment us at the Vets.
I would welcome him any time great guy and great rider as was his brother

Thanks, Martin!

To celebrate the merge, here's 90s Gan-man Eddy Seigneur.

Astana's logistics manager during the Sanquer era, Seigneur was interviewed during the Tour last year. Pretty much his sole task was to keep the flies off Contador, as a sort of bodyguard-soigneur-logistics guy.

What happened to Michael Andersson, former Telekom and TVM rider. Swedish time trial specialist and silver medallist in the ITT Worlds in 1999 (just 14 seconds behind Jan Ullrich).

Anybody knows (ingsve, perhaps)?

This was his take on Gaumont's Cofidis revelations in 2004: "rent skitsnack" - which I believe means "pure BS".

This forum post in 2005 has Andersson as trainer for the young Thomas Lofkvist.

Later still, we have Andersson denying EPO use in light of the Riis admissions in 2007: "Telekom var inte det enda stallet som höll på med den här skiten" - which comes out something like "Telekom wasn't the only team doing this schnit".

Finally, Andersson turned up at his old club in Helsingborg in November 2010 to open a new museum.

Whats Teun van Vliet doing these days. Always remember his gallant 1987 Het Volk win in Panasonic colours. I rider who I always admired.

He runs the Amstel Gold Race and some other races. His daughter has made a bit of a name for herself as well.

Fascinatingly, he [Svorada] was a trainee electrician before turning to pro cycling, though he shows no sign of taking up that particular career again. ;)

Unlike Svorada, Danish ex-pro, Bo Hamburger, has put his vocational training to use and now works as a master house painter in Denmark, just like his dear old dad.

I seem to remember he got involved in politics with the VLD (Liberal Democrats?)
I thought he was sitting around ruing the day he didn't patent his design for knickers. If he could have, the guy would be set for life!

Where are they now: Andrea Guardini. World famous, all conquering, heroic, legendary two-time stage winner of 2011 Tour de Langkawi.

Now: Third. The loser.

Oh, the albatross that is Langkawi dominance. First, Graeme Brown and Tom Danielson; now, Andrea Guardini?
