How many football players rub shoulders with international politicians and Senators? How many football players have an international charity?

Terry McDonnell is a gutless POS who should go back to being an editor at US magazine. No way he should be screwing up a magazine like SI

Good job Terry, you just blew 2 years of hard work. Is is not like this is not going to come out anyways. Wonderboy can only contain the truth for so long.

Damn. This truly sucks.

And folks, people wonder what Fabiani does... He eats lunch. Eats it with the right people and then he calls-in a lifetime's worth of favors. And he gets paid $650 per hour to eat these lunches.

The only solace in this is that Lance just paid his TDU appearance fee to make a single magazine article go away. But he can never make the truth go away, and it WILL come to be known. Just not in the SI article.

This is exactly it. They bought connections and influence w/Fab man. I would suppose now Si or this guy McDonnell will have a favor owed to him by a powerful washington PR guy - not sure what that's worth but maybe with the way publishing is going these days it's good to have a favor credit.

Sad, because it needs to come from SI or another repspected publication. If it comes out via message board it can easily be written off, even with author's name attached.

Ha ha. I can see the collective boo-hoo party all the way from here.

Maybe it is possible there is nothing here. You give Lance too much power he is not god and he cannot control the whole universe. Now he runs SI ha!

All he did was divert a rolling steamroller to another direction. He never stopped it cold. And the power you allude to, it's leased, not owned. Like your neighbor's 5 series BMW:

Yes, haha.
Haters disenchanted again and dreams fade away again.
Has that holy article ever existed ? Of course, and Lance killed it. lol
Evil Lance controls the whole universe. :D Lance fault again.

This place will be terrible today if the disenchanted don't find their holes after 2 shocks on one day.

Race, you work in media. You probably know that McDonnell was more than likely given a beat-down from TW management rather than lost his spine. And that beat-down was initiated by Fabiani.

This story was killed over lunch at Le Cirque, not in the SI editorial offices. And it was probably killed weeks ago. They just kept everyone on-task until they actually dropped the hammer. Not to worry. We'll find another set of ears. Eventually, publications in search of eyeballs will want in on the bandwagon. And that bandwagon is growing.

Yep, that actually sounds about right:)

This week is Lance's last International race as a Pro.
It would make sense, be timely, for SI to run the article this week.

Maybe part of the article will be a tribute too?
Maybe review all the times Lance made the cover? Cool!!
Gosh, hard for me to pick my favorite one...

The London Sunday Times still has a score to settle. They printed a retraction last time.

Its been speculated to me PK has completed his article. Its been with the legal team for a few days so expect to see it any given Sunday soon. He will get the spread.

The Brits are still p1ssed at the UCI taking events away at the 2012 Olympics. Guaranteed Gold medals. They really don't care about the impact. The BBC still has a case on hold gets HV.

In addition many will remember the World Cup bid a few weeks back. The night before the vote BBC Panorama ran a program on FIFI officials taking bribes.

The British Press doesn't cave. Watch this space.

RM are you sure you're Australian?

Saw this coming a mile away - you never sit on a scoop this big especially with bits and pieces being leaked all over the internets.

Interesting that the guy lives in NYC. Is it possible that they Amstrong's people went above this spineless guy? Maybe it wasn't his decision to make.

This is why Grand Jury investigations are so much better. ;)

Count on it. You don't throw-away 2 years worth of work. Book publishers love this stuff.

I'm also wondering if more will come from the initial Bonnie D. Ford interview with Landis. We've only seen and heard excerpts. At the very least I hope she releases the entire transcript at some point.

Back on the SI topic: As others have stated, the average SI reader has no clue about cycling, and most of them haven't the inclination to become informed. As much as I would like to see it, I've long felt that any truly explosive and revealing article on LA, in a magazine that lives for college basketball and the swimsuit issue, would be akin to publishing a stunning breakthrough in quantum physics in the pages of People Magazine—it would be beyond what most of its readers would be able, or even willing, to comprehend.

(Sadly, the same could be said for at least half the readers of Bicycling and Velonews as well.)

It's all good here my friend. ;)

Came in to the office, had a nice cup of Kona, answered a couple of emails, finalized some plans for a trip to Hawaii at Easter, and checked on the status of a new set of ZIPP 808's I have on the way.

All is good. Out of the office early and out on the bike. 80 degrees in So Cal today.

Tomorrow will be pretty good too.

Are you sure about the Zipp's in the crosswind?

Lance's legions seem to have been able to amend the first amendment.
Still, it doesn't pay to have too much excitement in January.
I expect Cobblerstoned, Flicker and Polish will be feeling a little stiff, this afternoon.

Typo or overly cryptic? You lost me on that sentence.

In July 2008, a BBC investigation found documents indicating that over three million dollars were paid by Japanese race organizers as reimbursements for UCI expenses during Verbruggen's tenure as president, including five flights to the Netherlands for Verbruggen personally in 1999.[7] The investigation cited sources within the UCI who confirmed that the repayments were "explicitly a payback for getting keirin into the Games". Verbruggen denied any wrongdoing, and the UCI ignored BBC requests for clarification.

I don't even think this got much press in the sports pages let alone the mainstream news. But Panaorama is something different. They love injustice and sensationalism.

You scoop guys have lost some credibility in regards to upcoming SI articles. You keep telling everyone that something big and good is coming. In the end, nothing but a big FAIL. You lose some credibility when you present information as if it is a done deal and in the end we are stuck with a WTF moment????.

What was in the article? If you had information that it was just a matter of time before the article gets dropped then you should have some good information on what was inside the article. What was going to be so big?

Now there is some tease about a article in the Sunday times. Really? Really? What is the date for it to come out? January 18th? January 23? January 30? Seriously just save it. I will believe it when I read it.

??

The Sunday Times pumped it. They were not happy. They think its pay-back. Fancy taking those events out in the lead up to the London Games. Criminal.
