I don't see how you can draw that conclusion.
You are assuming that all the big names would be racing the Giro to win, when riding the first week or so could almost conveniently form part of a Tour training programme.
You simply cannot construct a contract that could guarantee this outcome.
So, we are left with some form of a gentleman's agreement.
The trust required from all sides, for that to happen, would be enormous.

Well ye you need to assume that they ride to win - in all 3. But if that condition is met all three races (especially the latter 2) will be extremely interesting and open (particularly for the 2nd row candidates).

I am not talking about contracts here, I am talking about if theose 4 actually agreed that this would be a fun and interesting experiment and genuinely gave it a go. You cant force people to do anythingthey dont want to. They should actually want to do it - all of them. And one of the incentives would be the knowledge that you took part of something really historical - win or lose.

It would play into his hands if they did accept the challenge. It would level the playing field for Contador at the Tour. He's already shown with his past success that the personality of the Giro parcours is generally to his liking.

The laugh is, as others have also pointed out, TS / Oleg / AC also reap rewards if they don't. :)

If I were Team Sky or Astana, I'd take up the gauntlet. I just don't think their 'worst case scenario' is that bad. Certainly a lot less bad than the worst case scenario if they don't participate.

It's not up to Tinkov, Contador or his fans to decide the race program of his opponents and call them out as cowards if they don't listen.

I'll just remind them that when Contador was as old as Nibali or Quintana he would only ride for half a season (if he wasn't banned, of course).

Aren't you generalizing? Are all "Velasco" fans of the exact same opinions. You being a non-fan can we stick you in one little cubby hole with the extreme and less extreme?

It is just too long to explain.

I like Contador but I thought it was only Armstrong and Froome's fans that get blinded by their favorite riders. They want to believe almost anything. Like if it was just a video game.

Don't want to get into details because I don't want to argue with anyone.
