I doubt it's the road surface. Having consulted la Gazzetta this morning my interpretation is that Vegni caved into pressure from his staff and crew. We read that it is usually the riders' association that requests that a stage not be raced. Instead it was ASO that came forward and asked that the stage be cancelled. Thus it appears that they didn't want to set things in place for the stage to be raced and, taking recourse to the new rules and what happened at Paris Nice, ASO shamefully renigged on THEIR DUTY. Vegni should resign for this if it doesn't snow.

Like I previously stated preventative cancellation is poor, poor form.

After the Stelvio debacle of the 2014 Giro, Vegni is obviously an incompetent.

ASO or RCS?

My mistake, RCS!

I wonder if the roads where the riders went to training today are different from the roads of the stage..

That's Monte San Vicino there. The tarmac looks pretty good too.

RCS have been largely an embarrassment since Zomegnan left. One stupid decision after another for years now.

Hopefully RCS will have to deal with a huge shitstorm, something like that should never happen at the Giro. Until now vegni only made one questionable decision when it came to bad weather, Stelviogate, but who really knows what happened.
The good thing is that two of the biggest Idiots in cycling who approve this kind of BS, Lefevre and Ochowicz, don't have a real gc-conteder who'll ride the Giro, so they won't have much leverage.

Just bring him back. The reason he got fired was hardly any relevant but a big big tragedy (Wouter) plus some pathetic clowning (Zoncolan stage) anyway.

Astana threatening RCS with Nibali's absence in Giro d'Italia. They are mad because they cancelled the stage. No snow at all.

Ahahahahahaha

Seriously, I saw that one already coming, when they lightened Aru's spring program because his shape was better than expected already at Algarve while Landa's got his health problems!

Ain't got nothing's to do with todays stage cancelation if you ask me.

Wow that would be a loss for the Giro. Hopefully it is just posturing! Meanwhile there was no snow on the route today, yikes!

Dumoulin will win the Giro with ease if they act like that in Giro, so why should he even bother racing?

You think there's a realistic chance Nibali and Aru swap or something? No way

If Aru wins Pais Vasco (apparently he wants to peak for it) while Landa keeps on struggling I believe he simply wants to win the Giro (Well, because he'd be very likely to do so then) and attempt the anniversary Giro as the reigning champ. "Heaven (the TdF) can wait" in that case.

Nibali just ain't got enough to say anymore at Astana with his contract expiring I fear and continually talks about doing the Tour + Olympics anyway. Never-mind he's scheduled to primarily focus on the corsa rosa since last fall.

I wouldn't rule it out. Astana could also be called Astdrama after all.

Nibali is probably the stronger of the two, as he certainly is a better TTer. It is right for Astana to threaten the Giro after this inexcusable debacle. In any case, Vegni is a total f-ing idiot. Sorry but I just had to get that off my chest, having already perceived this from his interviews. Now is the confirmation.

Landa is on Sky BTW :).

I'm really sick of these comments.
There are plenty of riders who came here in Italy to get a result and they were spoilt of their efforts, while the weather is fine today.

It's disrespectful for those riders and for the fans. Just see all the disappointment here : https://twitter.com/search?f=tweets&vertical=default&q=%23TirrenoAdriatico&src=tyah

"Bring the race closer to the fans"
Bah!

Another reasons to dislike BMC and Cannondale...

Edit: And Lefevre seems to really happy about the cancellation for some reason.

That's why he's or was the main opponent on paper for the Astana leader!? With Nibali having a stronger advantage on him in the tt than Aru. But if Landa's problems continue ..... Aru would be the overwhelming favorite and if Nibali likes the idea to ride the Tour anyway.

Seriously those claims sound very made up somehow. Like they did some talks already like 3-4 weeks ago, when they lightened Aru's program and now fueled by anger they use the situation to arrange a plausible reason for it.

I might be fully on the track though. It's speculation ofc.

BMC are happy about it because 3 of their riders will probably finish in the top 10 and they still could win the whole race, of course they are happy.
