Ultimately the race was decided by TTT

The race was decided by Van Avermaet sitting on the back of the breakaway on stage 6 and not doing a single turn, so that he'd be fresh enough to outsprint Sagan (who did pull the group) and collect the bonus seconds that allowed him to win the overall. Yes, it's a win, but I won't forget how he won it. Not cool.

You do a disservice to GVA

He's not lying, though.

Good to see GVA win. He had a long run of podiums maybe not to the extent of Sagan but many were in good races so I don't mind seeing his luck change. A penny for Sagan's thoughts every time he stand on the lower step ! Still it could not have been closer and both riders gave it their all in the TT. GVA is having a good year so far. See if his form continues throughout the classics season.

Yes it is. Greg is one of the most exiting riders of the last few years. Always attacking, always working, always making races and always losing.

This year he got smart. Peter will learn and get smart as well. All of the multi monument winners that relied on raw power had years like that.

This can be Greg's year. and it is worth it.

The problem is when he gets smart, others almost always ride against him. Nobody will give him a free ride to the finish line. That's why he always has to work. A very strong team would help too. The addition of Gatto is a step in the right direction for this season.

Interesting to see that a non winner like GvA is winning now instead of winner Sagan. Strange reverse of roles :)

Since when is Sagan a winner? Even a podium spot has a name after him: first, saganth, third.

Lol...nice replay togo95.

How quickly we forget. The guy is 26 and has 75 wins in his career and he's suddenly not a winner. And don't forget who is the current World Champ.

***. he has a problem with always being second or fade before the end of the race. do you remember how long is it since his last TdF stage win? I hope he will find his formula soon.

Belgian commentary mentioned that Sagan now has 65 2nd places in his career, after getting second overall here. He still has 10 more wins than that then!
But Sagan generally only has the problem that he always finishes 2nd since 2014 and I think he had his most wins in 2011, 2012 and 2013 so what would really be interesting is the number of wins and 2nd places in the last two years and this season.

According to wikipedia when we add Tirreno´s three second places it is 16 to 32.

2016: 0 wins, 5 2nds
2015: 10 wins 17 2nds
2014: 7 wins, 10 2nds

yes, that's all true, but I would say that the problem is, that he got his wins earlier as a prodigy, since he is established as a star, he hasn't won so much. It's nice to see the number of victories, but those are only numbers, victory in Paris Roubaix is somethin else than victory in one stage of 1.HC event. It's much better to be twice 100th and then win a monument then to be three times second.
Don't get me wrong, I like Sagan and wish him only the best, but I don't see him as a "winner" type, because the last seasons he has a 2nd stigma. And when he repeatedly loses sprints to non-sprinters (GvA), it's a signal that something is wrong. But what? can he become better sprinter?
