I'm obviously kidding, just thinking back about a comment i read when Evenepoel showed Jakobsen's bibnumber in Poland, and some guy on WF said it was arrogant because Evenepoel assumed he was going to win, why else put Jakobsen's number in his pocket.

When Evenepoel dusted off his shoulder it nearly resulted in WWIII and it took extensive international lobbying for all nuclear powers to stand down. This celebration is not that different, also saying "too easy", "i'm the best", "not breaking a sweat"... But something tells me this time Twitter and Wielerflits will not explode for some reason.

You can and i would applaud you for being consistent. The reason why i brought it up, was that i assume many people will not be.
Personally, i have no issues with either celebration.

The thing for me in this case is that we all know that Mathieu isn’t arrogant in that sense. He always gives credit where credit is due.

When he couldn’t have done it without the help of another rider he always says it, he’s very honest in his post-race comments.

In CX in recent memory he said he couldn’t have bridged the gap to Pidcock in the pen-ultimate lap without Wout, or that he couldn’t have stayed ahead as much as he did without Narvaez in KBK.

At the end of the day if you win convincingly who cares about the celebration as long as it doesn’t offend anyone on the basis of race or religion.

Winners expect to win. Arrogant is rubbing people's face in it. A tribute is the opposite IMO.

I don't think Mathieu is arrogant. He's usually very down to earth, very seldom is he a bad loser and usually very respectful towards other riders. But a persona is created by others, for you.

A real shame that for the 2nd year in a row, we're unlikely to see him in the mix in the classics. I don't know, maybe he can get his form back in time for Roubaix but I have my doubts. Getting Covid really set hum back.

Do you think people thought Maertens' 76/77 stretch boring? Or watching Merckx was boring? Probably some. Personally I would've enjoyed watching what would later be considered greatness. "Ease" is hard earned, short lived, and rare in any sport and is fun to watch in my opinion.

Sounds like GC wasn't Wout's primary thought when going after Alaphillippe and it was just a split second decision as suspected:
