Ackermann is sprinting backwards.

Agree.

Gianetti and Matxin will be furious…

„Pascal, this is your second stage race this year with Tadej. Tadej deserves a winning sprinter in his team. If you continue losing bike races, you‘ll receive a visit from not-so-friendly men from the Emirates. You know what that means…“

Then Ackermann calls Ralph Denk, Bora:

„Ralph, can I return immediately, just like Bennett did? I‘ve got serious trouble here with Mauro and Matxin. Minimum salary would be OK, and I‘m happy if my schedule consists only of 1.1 and 2.1 races… Call me asap!“

:)

Pogi on the attack again, that's something new! For him Strade was a long time ago, it seems.
He's fighting for every second and is taking part in breakaways as if he knew that Remco would crush him in the coming stages.

Exactly… That‘s also a sign of respect towards Remco: Tadej takes Remco seriously, and even goes for these intermediate seconds.

With these teams like Jumbo or UAE, and their strong leaders, you now even see GC action on the flat sprinters‘ stages. Every stage, every race is important for guys like Primoz, Tadej or Remco. That is fantastic :)

I think people are making this too much about Pogacar vs. Remco. Pogacar has multiple other guys to contend with here. Guys who won GTs or podiumed them for example.

Nonetheless, under normal circumstances he will be too strong for all of them.

If I were MAL, Carapaz or Vingegaard (maybe even Tao) I would feel a bit disrespected.

Tao looked good today dropping Landa like that. Too bad for him he lost 12 seconds after that (I did not really see a split in the peloton but apparently there was).

Will be interesting to see what the Ineos trio can bring on Saturday. Indeed the Jumbo duo with Vingegaard and Kuss might prove strong. MAL, Mas, Alaphilippe, Bardet are also decent contenders amongst others.

Who are these people you speak of? Is Pogacar one of them? Why the hell is he hunting boniseconds? To push Hart, Lopez, Carapaz etc back an additional 4 seconds? He already has 30 seconds or more on them as it stands.

I don’t think Pogacar is one of them no. I think Pogacar is racing against multiple competitors not only against Evenepoel.
lol, he's clearly racing against Evenepoel. Whether it's to be able to wear the leader's jersey one or two days earlier than planned, i don't know. But i doubt he's going to be wasting energy in order to gain 4 seconds on guys who are never going to outclimb him 50 seconds who are already 45 seconds in the hole.

I agree. For Pog, Remco is the only unknown. And one who is actually close to him on GC. I think Pog just wants to be safe from any crazy surprises.

I doubt it will even be close (though I hope it will be). And it is likely others may end up ahead of Remco (though I hope not). However, for Pog, Remco is the only unknown, so it is insurance.

It's all about the Italian beast for Pogacar.

The biggest problem for Evenepoel is the penultimate stage. All other stages could enable him to gain some time on Pogačar. But obviously Pogačar has other plans. Still good tactics can play a role. And lets see if they manage to gain in between 30s to one minute on the other stages.

Yes, of course hes only racing against Evanepoel!

(Doesnt stand a chance on Monte Carpegna, ofc).

The context was him going after boniseconds at intermediate sprints, which he doesn't need to win. Unless he's a terrible descender (which we know he isn't) and fears others will ride 50s away from him at Carpegna's descend. So yes, the way he's riding chasing bonis now is against Evenepoel, or he wouldn't waste his energy doing so. Maybe he wants the jersey a day or two before the queen stage. Maybe he wants to make a statement, i have no idea. But there is no doubt in my mind that Evenepoel is the reason why he's doing it.

The biggest problem is that he will always have to drop Pogacar regardless the (type of) climb, regardless the race or the stakes, because he will always lose the sprint and bonis.

Unless we go back to proper length TTs. Give Remco a 1990s-2000s TDF course, he has a chance.

A Pogacar vs Evenepoel battle in a proper TDF with 2 >50km TTs and a few BIG mountain days would be a joy to watch. Not today's short, steep climbs and very short ITTs
