Everyone knows Van der Poel cleans it up, and Van der Poel didn't have a teammate.Teams with multiple riders seem to have forgotten how to ride the final with a reduced peleton. Surely you need to have one rider sacrifice for the other. Not for the first time a solo rider has survived a final when this should not have occurred.
Yeah, MVDP was hiding on the descent and the flat but closed down the final Pidcock attack super easy and won the sprint by a couple of bike lengths. No way he was cooked, he just expected everyone to ride for him as usual.
- Someone who didn't watch Amstel in 2019If people are expecting MVDP's pulls to be the difference in closing a 10+ second gap within a km or two, there is no chance he has anything left to sprint after that.
Like a pro, he knew that they saw him have the puncture before 3 km to go, so he deliberately dropped his chain. Champ. No 3k rule I assume, otherwise he could ride into the zone and 'have a mechanical' then, Remco style.
Are you sure he had a puncture? The only reason I ask is that when they came off the last hill, and rode onto the major road, he was at the back, but he took that turn as fast as the guys in front of him. and they were hauling a$$. Maybe he said later he had a puncture? If not, I think he actually had a drivetrain malfunction.Like a pro, he knew that they saw him have the puncture before 3 km to go, so he deliberately dropped his chain. Champ.
Not absolutely sure, but it looked like a slow puncture where he had some sealant. Are you sure he had a puncture? If Dversnes was dicking around trying to ride slower than another guy he was with, he also would have lost!- Someone who didn't watch Amstel in 2019
Yeah, he doesn't always come off great in his interviews. I half assumed it was because of his bad English, but is it the same in Italian?Ganna didn't punture, but his chain dropped with 3 km to go, prior to that I think he just wanted a position on the descent further back. In any case, in the post-race interview he doesn't seem to know how to be simpatico, like Di Nero on Letterman.
The interview was in Italian and it's like, come on dude, lighten up a bit.Yeah, he doesn't always come off great in his interviews. I half assumed it was because of his bad English, but is it the same in Italian?
