there's an interview on Youtube where he mainly sounds disappointed about losing the chance to win, and also apologizes for his rude words earlier on. I guess it was taken a bit later on.

Yea in the previous interview, annoyed by a very normal question, he responded with contempt "non lo so" ("I don't know"). An awkward silence followed. It was an unpleasant vibe.

It'd be a great shame if the weather were like in 2016 and they had to cancel the stage. Or at least the last climb. Would be most unfortunate. Maybe though the riders deserve a rest day after a tough week? As much as it would displease the organisers and all of Italy, I think they should cancel today's stage. Yeah, the riders should protest the finish and stage results cancelled.

I would think its because despite his best endeavours and obvious really good form he' s pizzed off by only winning once.
Probably started with all the stupid sheep following the wrong leader on stage one in Portugal.

I've seen him give rude interviews in the past. Sure, it has to do with being sour over bad luck, lack of winning when he could have, which happens to many, but it's mainly a character issue.
