any 90kg rider that pushes himself over this course finishing minutes down on the last group while dozens of riders simply climbed into the car deserves to finish the race.

I heard a rumour that Froome and SKY threw this stage on purpose because they were worried that all the people who spat their dummies out and cried that they were never watching cycling again would actually go through with the threat.

The sport can't afford to lose that many fans in one go.

27/30% - after those tough kms and climbing in that weather no wonder they were going sideways. That's about the limit of what you can actually ride up, pro on a compact or not.

While today's stage was great maybe that is a little bit on the sadistic side.

EDIT and now I see the pic of pro's walking - that is not right (except when 5 abreast on 1.5m wide sunken cobbles lane)

But I wonder how hard it would have been and how many abandons there would have been if it hadn't rained.

Funny how things work out here doesn't it? I've even noticed a self-confessed Contador die-hard supporter, who has been so depressed over Contador's loss of form, gushing in happiness all over Nibali's win and not noticing that Contador has fallen off the podium...

It seems hating on Sky has taken precedence over supporing one's own favourite rider.

Maybe because they think as long as Sky doesnt' win, then Nibali is as good as Contador to snuff them on a steep climb. . Science vs instinct, today instinct won.

Once again a bad day makes szmyd a better climber or something? at his best he is just as good as Wiggo, Van den Broeck, Rolland so on and so on.
The only climbers that are clearly better in their top shape are AC, Froome, probably JRod and perhaps Valverde/quintana. No idea how Pinot will do this year.

Speaking of Pinot, does anyone know why he isn't racing either T-A or Paris-Nice?

yeah whats up with fabian's silly comments?? Hushovd is as heavy as him and he's coming back from injury (sick leave) yet he managed an impressive top 10. Roelandts too is no where near a climber but managed a top 10.
You wouldn't expect him to complain about a hard race.

they have been many times before in the giro. I remember giro 2004? where only 90 riders finished because they did the same

Or they just sat on Sky's a*se till 15k to go? Sky's fault again for riding at the front uneccessarily. Then got away on a 'climb' where you'd have been better off running up with the bike on your shoulder. If anything, they were more scientific than Sky!
