Apparently Löfkvist had a puncture in the final 10km and getting back into the main group cost him a lot of energy so he wasn't as fresh in the final climb as he would otherwise had been. We also saw that Cunego had a similar issue a little earlier and he was also less than his usual self so he probably also lost a little too much energy getting back to the front group.
Too bad. I still think Löfkvist has been promising this week, a lot better than he was at the same point last year. Will be very interesting to see if he's back to his pre-2010 TT form tomorrow.

I agree, he looks confident being leader now, obviously got respect from team too, hope he can move on and have a good giro, top 10 certainly realistic

for the stage win? Maybe. Though he didn't look to good (better than basso or gilbert) near the finish yesterday on the climb. That is probably to do with not having much racing in the legs. He has a good chance and he peformed well in Macerata last year.

Oddly on paddy power betting odds, they have basso favourite for the stage win.

there you go... good call.

Way to go Cadel! Just one more now.

Damnit, I missed this race. Congratulations ACF, seems Cuddles destroyed everyone.

Does anyone have a link to a summary, looking forward to see how Gesink struggled and still gained a position in the GC (lol how :D?) and how Cuddles won. Seems Euskatel is the last team without a win, enjoy while it lasts ACF and prepare to get dropped by Gesink later in the season ;)!
Yip - I missed the race live too - but I just watched the last 8km here

Great stage and a magnificent victory for Cuddles - he rode smart, aggressively and won with a lot of panache against some great riders, chapeau.

Visconti looking as if that hurt.............a lot!

Not sure about what Cadel is about, though.
Maybe he's calculating his CQ points?:D

..........slow getting up the full classification..........

No, he wasn't even trying.:D

Is that why Cunego attacked and counter attacked?

Still, there will be something wrong. Whiner.
Dude wtf?

You were simply completely wrong and didn't preview the profile, and then you call someone else a whiner?

Foolish really.

I think he's calling Canc a whiner.

I have just seen the official times which have been posted, and to be honest i'm quite surprised. The first thirteen (Evans through Simon Clarke) have all been given the same time. Personally I find that more than a little ridiculous. Just look at that pick that Mellow posted a few spots up. Evans has already crossed the line, and under his right arm you can still see Gesink in full sprint so 50 odd meters out from the line. Given how tiny the margins are, and how every second will count tomorrow, I think a better effort could've been made to separate the riders, since for instance Gesink ended up gaining 11 seconds on Cunego, even though he crossed the line 5 seconds earlier. 6 seconds could potentially make a big difference tomorrow.

Yeah, this is kind of a 'cycling manager' counting system :p

Everybody who played that game knows what i mean, with the gaps of 3 minutes for people who finish 21 seconds behind the big peloton.... (far more extreme than this).

It has to do with the 'cut-off' the timing system uses. They probably took a full second as limit for riders finishing behind eachother. And the one behind Clarke finished probably 1,1 second behind, and got the full gap to the first....

They also had problems with that sprint for bonus seconds. No one even seemed to fight for it even though they were important. And they got the placings wrong I think.

Well, if you actually look at the finish you'll see that there are riders evenly spread out without any gaps in between so there is no place there would have been a gap until where Löfkvist and Pinotti finishes.

In the image you talk about there are several riders between Cadel and Gesink that you don't see because they are behind Evans in the image. You can slightly see Scarponi behind Visconti and then you can see Poels but right next to and behind Poels is also Basso, Nibali and Garzelli to cover the gap down to Gesink.

i am so confused by cadel's interprative dance routines/victory salutes

I actually lol'd when he crossed the line. It looked like he said to himself 'alright, I've got time to do something cool here, lets pull out all the stops", the he hesitated and somehow landed on a weird brow wipe/helmet touch.

Still, awesome ride. thought he was gone on the second last ramp but rode within himself to get back and power home.

If you see the evidence you can see that there's a gap of several bike lengths between Garzelli and Gesink at least.

Also, it's more of a general principle. Look at that photo and tell me Gesink finished in the same group as Evans.

do you think his team mates ever talk to him about his saluting? 'hey cadel, try a helmet wipe! its awesome everyone will think you are cool'

Well, the gap is not about length it's about time and Gesink was moving relatively fast over the line so even that gap lengthwise was not that long in time. They check the gaps on the photo finish where they can measure the time very precisely and if there is a gap of at least 1 second they are usually very good at catching it.

His point was that even though the tt is essentially a flat prologue, Canc has been whining a lot and will complain that its too long and hilly.

Its a joke and a good one.

Yes, I thought it was funny too. Be good to transpose Spartacus's post TT interview with his comments from after stage five. Riding in his aero position with people casually skiing past him.
