Ive read/listened to several interviews with Tom over the last few weeks and hes absolutely obsessed with the Olympics. I wouldnt be surprised if he doesnt really bother with the GC at all during the Giro.

Don't be surprised, because he allready said he won't go for the GC in Italy. His goal next year is TT's with the main goal being Rio since the course suits him and he doesn't know the course they will use in 2020. Olympics are only once every four years while there are 3 GT's every year. 2016 is his biggest chance for a medal at the Olympics so that's simply his goal for next year.

He added though that just like the Vuelta, if he gets into the position to fight for his GC he won't just let it slip since that would be stupid. It's just not his primary goal.

He said himself he doesnt care about the Giro GC this year just about the ITTs so if he is honest then he wont bother.

He also said that if he's in the position and form to contest he won't let it go. Just like how the Vuelta unfolded, but that's not the intention of doing the Giro. That's because there are 3 TT's and he thinks it's the safest/best preparation for the Rio TT.

Besides, I bet he also wants to be in King Kong form for the Amstel Gold Race, so that would be 3 peaks in the course of a couple of months. Dont see that happening. Giro will be for early pink, and to go for another stage victory further down the road.

No he will not peak for the Ardennes week since he troed that last 3 years and it never worked out. He said that it's probably just not his best period of the year. He didn't say he will never do it again, but for this year it simply didn't fit in his preparation for the goals he has this year.

According to La Gazzetta he's only ride Amstel and skip FW and LBL to prepare for the Giro, that means that he's pretty serious about the Giro.
He said that he hasn't huge expectations, but if he's high on gc after stage 9 (The 2nd ITT) he'll go for it.
He'll go for the gc if there aren't any complications durning the first week.

Dumoulin is not stupid though, he knows the level in the Vuelta in the mountains was the lowest it has been in years, and that it will be really hard to repeat such a result in the Giro, where GC men are usually at their fittest

Damn, those are some not so marginal gains.

Just cannot seem to win this year. 2nd again.

Also, definately not as commanding in ITT's as last year. Not sure what to make of it but he seems headed for an off year
Three times second in ITT isn't actually bad. Sure he isn't heading for an off year in olympic year. Isn't this Contador's thread? :)

Finally! :D :D :D :D

and what great timing as well.

I don't care that Cancellara was sick, Kung has fallen and Roglic was really close. It's the win that counts, and how it was done nobody remembers anymore after a while. A win is a win, and this is a big one
