I'm totally disagreeing with you DFA yeah. I can't possible compare Blockhaus Dumoulin to anything he did before. Even other 1 MTF finishes on similar steep climbs he did way worse at.
Fair enough. For me his performances on things like Cumbre del Sol and Arcalis showed his ability to climb well on different kinds of mountains when fresh and when it's just the one big climb. The issue for me is his ability on multi high mountain stages when he's not fresh. Which hasn't been tested at all yet this Giro. And is what his main rivals excel at.

Arcalis stage had Bonaigua, Canto, Comella and Beixalis before the final climb to Arcalis.

Indeed. That's what I'm saying; he has shown some very strong climbing performances in the past - similar to his level on Blockhaus this year imo. But only when well rested and fully recovered. The test this next week is going to be on his recovery and his ability to follow wheels, which is where he is still very unproven.

Anyway, I've made the point enough about this. Just going to wait now and see what happens. Hopefully we get an epic week-long duel between Dumoulin, Quintana and Nibali where the best man wins.

Tom Dumoulin: "My actual weight is around 70-71 kg." (RAI)

So basically no weight loss.
Garbage... he has 68/69 kg like in the 2015 vuelta, but his w/kg are lower and more credibles if everybody think he is around 71 kg...

I remember one TdF ('96 maybe?) when they published the height and weight from the pre-race medical check (they might have done it other races/years too but I didn't notice). It would be cool if there was neutral party who provided this info. for us. The teams aren't going to tell us, but then how many good poker players tell you what cards they have?

I could imagine all the riders drinking about 3 litres of water immediately before :) Kind of like the opposite of what boxers do.

Why should he lie about his weight?

Is that going to change the way his opponent will attack him or feel about him?

No reason to think he is not 70-71kg as he said.
He also said that he tried to lower his weight further down, under 70kg, but that made him weaker.

You didn't see my post... more weight means lower w/kg... froome in pierre saint martin lied about his weight too. Why? It's pretty obvious

Nothing obvious.
He can lie big time. That doesn't change a bit the way the other riders will try and attack him in the next few days.

Or perhaps you expect Quintana saying "Oh my God. Dumoilin has got such a high power to weight ratio! I'm gonna play defensive. He is too strong. I won't attack him" or the opposite, if he is stating an higher that real weight, for all that matters :D

PS: obviously you weighted Froome yourself. That's why you are so sure he also lied.

He suggests it's clinic related, it has nothing to do with his rivals.

A wee bit frivolous but how do you actually pronounce big Tam's surname in English. In my head, I've always given it a French pronunciation for some reason (do moi lain) and I don't think anyone on ES has got it right either as they all pronounce it a wee bit differently. Can we have a definitive for us non Dutch speakers?
but with a mad Fife twang or a upper class Edinbugger accent
Oh man, you couldn't be so wrong if you tried. I could tell you stories from South Edinburgh that would make your toes curl. PM me and I'll tell you a few;)

Class ride by Big Tam, he is clearly super strong

C'mon boy. You can still do it. Own tempo, TT up the climbs. The final kms on stage 18, 19 and 20 are in your advantage. Start the final TT within striking distance. We want to see you in pink in Milan.

Extremely impressive ride, we need to remember that there is likely 1:30-2 minutes for him in the TT. That's a huge amount for Quintana and Nibali to take and neither look like they could actually drop him that badly in a straight up shoot-out with no poo breaks.
